For players that have reached the Borderlands 3 endgame, activating Mayhem Mode gives them the chance to test their skills against more challenging opponents, which just so happen to drop more Legendary loot. Currently, there are three Mayhem levels for fans to enjoy, with Mayhem 3 being the most challenging, but that is set to change, as Gearbox Software has now offered details on Mayhem 4, a forthcoming Borderlands 3 Mayhem Mode level.
Borderlands 3's Mayhem 4 will be available alongside the Takedown at Maliwan's Blacksite DLC, which the developer has previously indicated will release this fall/winter. As many fans are likely to expect, Mayhem 4 will feature even more difficult enemies, which Gearbox suggests will "reward players with highly synergized character builds," and there will also be brand new Legendaries that can only be obtained in this forthcoming BL3 Mayhem Mode level.
The addition of Mayhem 4 is not the only thing that the developer has planned for Mayhem Mode, though, as it is stated that a "significant revamp" is in the works. This revamp includes things like UI changes, new Mayhem Modifiers, and Mayhem playlists, and Gearbox plans to continue adding additional Mayhem levels and new rewards down the line. Dubbed as "Mayhem Mode 2.0," there is no official timeline for these changes to Borderlands 3's Mayhem Mode, but there is the suggestion that they will come after the implementation of Mayhem 4.
Players may also be excited to learn that the Takedown at Maliwan's Blacksite DLC will bring another highly-requested feature to the game: the ability to store additional weapons. Gearbox previously indicated that storage space would be increasing in Borderlands 3, and fans can now expect their banks to more than double in size with this update. Additionally, the developer suggests that storage space will increase even further in the future.
With the Borderlands 3 Bloody Harvest event scheduled to begin today, and Mayhem 4 set to arrive in relatively short order, there are certainly a number of reasons for fans to continue playing Gearbox's highly popular looter shooter. While some players may be left a bit frustrated by the nerfs that recently hit some of the game's best Legendary weapons, it does seem that the developer hopes to keep them engaged with a myriad of additional content.
Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
