There was quite the commotion at the Milan Red Carpet Premiere of Luca Guadagnino's new cannibal romance Bones and All. Due to the number of fans involved, most of whom appeared to be Timotheé Chalamet super fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the actor, the red carpet event was shut down. The premiere did continue within the walls of the venue.

Bones and All is Chalamet's first reunion with Guadagnino, who directed him in Call Me By Your Name. The 26-year-old Dune actor has gained quite the fanbase, both for his looks and his acting abilities (which recalls the hype around a younger Leonardo DiCaprio). Chalamet is usually cordial among throngs of fans at his red carpet premieres, but it appears that the crowd was simply too large to handle.

According to Variety, local police had to shut down the red carpet premiere because the crowd had swollen to massive proportions, which represented some serious safety concerns. While the premiere of Bone and All and its introduction was allowed to go on within the venue, the red carpet was cancelled and none of the film’s actors made their way through the crowd. Chalamet himself did not do any press. He, actress Taylor Russell, and Guadagnino did, however, wave to the crowds from a safe distance on a balcony.

Blood and All is a cannibalistic romance that focuses on Meren (Russell) and Lee (Chalamet), two lovers who embark on a road trip across America. It is based on a 2015 novel of the same name by author Camille DeAngelis. The film also features the talents of some high-profile actors such as Mark Rylance, David Gordon Green, and Chloe Sevigny.

The red carpet shutdown highlights Chalamet's growing fame and popularity. He can easily be classified as a “heartthrob,” as many young men and women have fallen for his charm. His acting ability has also been praised, and his performances in films such as Dune and Call Me By Your Name have earned him critical praise in particular. Chalamet will next be seen in Dune: Part Two and Wonka.

However, the situation also highlights the dangers of fan culture. While none of the attendees likely held any sort of ill intent, it’s easy for things to get out of hand when so many people gather in a crowd and swarm to see their favorite actors and actresses. It was probably for the best that the red carpet was cancelled, and perhaps it can illustrate some better precautions for the future.

Bones and All hits theaters on November 18, 2022.
