A24 has released the first trailer for its upcoming dark comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies, which looks to arrive in theaters in August. The newest horror venture from the notable studio is based on a short story by Kristen Roupenian and comes from director Halina Reijn, making her first appearance behind the camera for an English feature film.

Bodies Bodies Bodies centers around a group of young friends that spend the weekend in a remote mansion while a hurricane surges outside. While away, the group decides to throw a party, which involves drinking and drug usage until the focus centers around the game Bodies Bodies Bodies, which everyone at the getaway chooses to play. The innocent game revolves around selecting a designated "killer" who must sneak around "murdering" everyone one by one.

However, the friendly game quickly becomes chaotic and bloody as the friends start to suddenly drop dead throughout the night. Despite their accusations and blame, the young group must work together to survive while trying to discover the villain behind the heinous crimes. A storm rages on both sides, trapping the friends in a chaos bubble, prompting anxiety and paranoia to come full circle. The killer could be anyone, which is a mystery they must unearth together.

The upcoming film stars Amandla Stenberg, Pete Davidson, Chase Sui Wonders, Maria Bakalova, Myha'la Herrold, Rachel Sennott, and Lee Pace. Sarah DeLappe wrote the screenplay for the film, which made its official premiere at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival and received pretty positive reviews. It'll be interesting to see if the sentiment transitions to audiences in August once the film makes its theatrical box office premiere. Whodunit stories have historically performed relatively well in theaters, adding optimism that Bodies Bodies Bodies may be riveting for those looking for balanced comedy and horror.

There is a tremendous amount to look forward to from A24, which is riding the current wave of success generated by the Michelle Yeoh-led film Everything Everywhere All At Once, which is currently playing in theaters. The film has now generated roughly $28 million worldwide, surpassing the studio's previously released horror film X, which has earned about $12 million overall. A24's Men will arrive on May 20th, coming from director Alex Garland. The mockumentary Marcel the Shell with Shoes On is also on the docket and will arrive on June 24th.

Horror has been the name of the game for A24 in the new year, which will have released three such films once Bodies Bodies Bodies arrives in August. Despite the similar genre, each film is different in its approach to horror, which appeases the appetite of the genre's vast demographic. Bodies Bodies Bodies appears to blend in more comedy in collaboration with the fear, which audiences may love or loath by the film's end.

Bodies Bodies Bodies will hit theaters on August 5, 2022.
