As uncertain as things are lately with tons of hate and toxicity flying around, it helps to have a happy place to come back to. For many, that happy place is the endlessly cheerful yet oddly grounded animated series known as Bob's Burgers. Now, with a full-on movie headed to streaming services soon, there's going to be one more access point for the land of perfect escapism.

The endlessly quotable Bob's Burgers Movie has already been charming audiences since its theatrical release in May, and a good part of that response may be due to the movie's musical nature. As much as the regular Bob's Burgers series seems to enjoy adding a little ditty or two to any given episode, the feature film has taken things several steps further, and not just by turning it into a full-blown musical.

In anticipation of the movie's upcoming streaming release, the folks in charge have offered up a full musical number for audiences to watch on YouTube before seeing the full production. Fans both passionate and casual are sure to pick up on just how much this little sample really looks and feels like the Bob's Burgers they've already come to know and love. But it also becomes quickly apparent that the production values of The Bob's Burgers Movie have taken a significant bump.

The animation is immediately clear as a rather subtle difference between the show and movie. While the show tends to feature generally well-made animation, it looks positively stiff compared to the movements seen in even mundane situations during the musical number. In fact, much of it almost looks rotoscoped, which is essentially a pre-computer style of manual motion capture. Tina thirsting after Jimmy Jr. during a typical walk down the sidewalk never looked so fluid.

Like The Simpsons Movie before it, The Bob's Burgers Movie seems to embrace the attitude that it doesn't need to change much of anything to switch from the small screen to a much larger one. All it needs is a little polish, some extra animation work, and more music. Whether or not that's enough is subjective, but it certainly seems to have captured its target audience.

For those who haven't been able to see The Bob's Burgers Movie in theaters or chose not to for the sake of safety, this little sneak peek is a great little taste of what's in store. Luckily, there's not much of a wait left before everyone can watch it in the comfort of their own homes, or at least a really tolerant public restroom.

The Bob's Burgers Movie will release on Hulu and HBO Max on July 12th.
