All of Bob and Linda’s kids in Bob’s Burgers have unique talents and personalities. Tina is the oldest and is wild for boys and horses. She’s also a people pleaser that tries to hide her feelings for the sake of others. Louise is a firecracker with an attitude. As the youngest, she is constantly trying to prove she is braver than everyone else.

Gene is a creative child that loves comedy and music. He’s also not shy about eating. The best episodes that focus on him highlight these talents to a wonderful degree. The following are just a few fan-favorite episodes.

8 Torpedo

“Torpedo” is not the most Gene-focused episode of Bob’s Burgers. However, he does learn a valuable life lesson from the whole experience. The Belchers go to a ball game one day wherein Bob meets his hero, a baseball player nicknamed Torpedo.

Gene also gets starstruck as he sees a bunch of mascots running a race. Gene decides he wants to represent the family restaurant in a race of his own. The core theme of the episode is about cheating and whether or not it’s okay even for the greater good.

7 The Frond Files

Gene from Bob’s Burgers

“The Frond Files” has Mr. Frond bring in Linda and Bob for a parent-teacher conference. Mr. Frond presents the children’s school reports and thinks they were being too mean to him in them. All three are based on popular movies.

Gene’s, for example, is a parody of Rock 'n' Roll High School which sees Gene rock out to “The Fart Song” in both the dream sequence and the credits finale. It’s quite catchy. Louise’s report is based on The Terminator while Tina’s is based loosely on Night of the Living Dead. It’s a good episode for all three kids.

6 The Unbearable Like-likeness Of Gene

“The Unbearable Like-likeness Of Gene” introduces one of the bigger mainstay side kids to Bob’s Burgers, Courtney. She is presented as a weird girl who talks a lot and likes to suck on her gold pendant.

Gene wants nothing to do with her in the episode but she wants to go out. When he agrees, things go from bad to worse. That is until he finds out Courtney’s father works in the music industry. Does Gene sell out and continue dating Courtney just to make new songs or is there a lesson learned instead?

5 Beefsquatch

A scene featuring characters from from Bob’s Burgers

“Beefsquatch” is a good episode for both Gene and Bob. When Linda sees the local news advertising a cooking segment, she encourages Bob to audition for it. Bob gets in but only because Gene was in the video as well.

Gene creates the character of Beefsquatch to come in while Bob is trying to explain his recipes. When Gene thinks the audience is falling asleep, he’ll make a joke, eat the burgers, and the audience will go nuts. Even Teddy and Mort get excited in the remote audience. Bob wants to passionately teach people how to cook, so the episode sees the two of them at odds with one another.

4 Spaghetti Western And Meatballs

Gene from Bob’s Burgers

“Spaghetti Western and Meatballs” is a good play on words for the theme of this episode of Bob’s Burgers. It begins with Louise and Bob watching their usual bad TV together before an old spaghetti Western pops on, Banjo. Louise doesn’t like it but Gene does so the two of them start bonding.

Louise also loses Gene at school as the movie series teaches Gene how to stand up for himself. The meatballs come into play because Bob is also tasked with making spaghetti and meatballs for Tina’s conflict resolution program. All plot lines tie nicely in with one another.

3 The Outside Toilet

“The Outside Toilet” is part E.T., part The Iron Giant in a way. Gene stumbles upon a high-tech toilet on his way home from school one day. He was upset because he killed three pretend babies made out of flour, thus humiliating himself.

However, Gene is successfully able to take care of this talking toilet. Meanwhile, a shady character is looking into what happened to “his” toilet. The ending comes together with the aforementioned movie inspirations being more obvious.

2 Diarrhea Of A Poopy Kid

“Diarrhea of a Poopy Kid” is a compilation episode just like “The Frond Files.” This time every segment, also based on movies, is about Gene. It’s Thanksgiving and Gene gets sick right before dinner. This is his favorite holiday so to cheer him up, each member of the family comes up with a food-related story.

The first is based loosely on Predator which sees the bounty-hunting alien turn people into food. The second is about pears hijacking Air Force One and the finale is about a giant piece of chicken parmesan falling towards Earth. That one is based on Armageddon if the plot synopsis wasn’t obvious enough.

1 Work Hard Or Die Trying Girl

A scene featuring characters from from Bob’s Burgers

“Work Hard or Die Trying Girl” is not only one of the best Gene episodes of Bob’s Burgers, but it’s also one of the best episodes of the show. It’s also a standout for what adult animated programs can be about.

It begins with Gene trying to sell his Die Hard musical to the school. Courtney wants to make Working Girl into a musical instead. Because her father works in the industry and volunteers his time and equipment, the school chooses her idea. However, that’s not the end of Die Hard by a long shot. Again, it’s an amazing piece of animation.
