Sam Hargrave, who directed the 2020 Chris Hemsworth action film Extraction and served as second unit director/stunt coordinator on many blockbuster films such as Deadpool 2, will be working on the upcoming Disney Plus series The Book of Boba Fett. Picking up right where The Mandalorian ended, The Book of Boba Fett will follow the titular bounty hunter and Fennec Shand during their journey around the galaxy to reclaim their destiny.

Boba Fett was reintroduced into the Star Wars canon via The Mandalorian. Thought to have been long dead since Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, fans were pleasantly surprised to see him alive. There were Star Wars comics that saw Boba surviving the pit that seemed to have killed him in the movies, but it was never confirmed to be officially canon nor recognized in any of the mainline Star Wars films.

The Book of Boba Fett will be joining the ever-growing group of Star Wars spin-off series such as The Mandalorian, The Bad Batch, Star Wars: Visions, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobiand an upcoming Ahsoka project. As far as directors go, The Ronin reports Hargrave will helm at least one episode of The Book of Boba Fett and might be working on second unit material as well. Jon Favreau, Bryce Dallas Howard, Robert Rodriguez, and Dave Filoni have previously been confirmed as directors on the show. Cinematographer Dean Cundey, who worked on Escape From New York, The Fog, Halloween, The Thing, and Big Trouble in Little China, is also on board. He also has a credit on Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

The Book of Boba Fett will answer questions about missing years of the bounty hunter's life. Lead star Temuera Morrison has previously stated that fans will learn about what Boba Fett has been up to since The Empire Strikes Back. When fans last saw Fett and Fennec Shand, the duo had just slaughtered everyone in the late Jabba the Hutt's palace and the armored bounty hunter assumed the throne.

Boba Fett has always been an interesting character in terms of the fan love he receives. Despite not being a prominent character in any of the Star Wars films, many people love the bounty hunter. This was prior to the canceled Star Wars 1313 video gameStar Wars: The Clone Wars animated series (which showed him as a kid), and before the Star Wars: Battlefront games. Maybe it was a case of fans seeing his untapped potential, but as far as cinema goes, viewers were never shown how strong Boba really is.

All fans know is that he earned the respect of Darth Vader, which speaks volumes, but the films were all about showing not telling. Fans need to see why Vader chose him and not another bounty hunter. Hopefully, this series shows that Boba Fett is the true descendent of the legendary Jango.

The Book of Boba Fett will be available in December 2021 on Disney Plus
