One of 2021’s unexpected hits, Nobody, starring Bob Odenkirk in a breakout action role, is already confirmed to be getting a sequel that its producers want to start shooting as early as next year.
Nobody premiered back in March 2021, and the film became quite popular among critics and viewers who had no issue embracing Odenkirk as an action star. Nobody earned nearly $58 million on a modest $16M budget, and rumors of a sequel surfaced shortly after. Most notably, Odenkirk thanked the role for helping him get into top-level physical shape, which may have played its hand in him surviving the heart attack he suffered while shooting the final season of Better Call Saul.
According to a report from Collider, Nobody producer Kelly McCormick confirmed that a sequel is already hoping to start filming next year. “We hope to make it next year, so fingers crossed. So our theory is you don't need to make a good sequel just to make a sequel. We need to make a great sequel,” McCormick said. Previously, director Ilya Naishuller had said all signs were pointing to Nobody 2 happening, with John Wick writer Derek Kolstad again penning the script and fellow producer David Leitch suggesting the entire team would be back for the sequel.
Nobody was produced by Leitch, McCormick, Braden Aftergood, Odenkirk, and Marc Provissiero, with Universal Pictures handling distribution. Still, the one key person who has yet to sign off on the project is Odenkirk, who starred alongside Connie Nielsen, RZA, and Christopher Lloyd. However, the actor himself has stated he’d be open to continue making action movies if given the chance, meaning the team should know his answer by now.
It’s no surprise Nobody became a sensation with John Wick's Kolstad on board, as Odenkirk's Hutch captures the essence that every good action protagonist needs to make his hard-hitting feats compelling for the audience. Even more so, Nobody isn't the type of movie that sets up a sequel the moment the credits roll, meaning where Nobody 2 will pick up is entirely up to Kolstad and company.
Now that Odenkirk is free from the Breaking Bad universe, he might have some more free time to focus on his future as an action movie star for his own franchise.
