Bluepoint Games, the studio behind the critically-acclaimed PlayStation 4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus, is next working on another even bigger remake. Bluepoint has yet to reveal (or even hint at) what that next game may be, but the developer says "We're really excited about our next project and we think you will be too when you find out what it is."

Bluepoint's PS4 remake of the 2005 classic from Fumito Ueda, Shadow of the Colossus, has been a hit and holds an impressive 92 Metacritic score. Bluepoint's president and co-owner, Marco Thrush says working on Shadow of the Colossus allowed the studio to grow its art team, but instead of taking on an original title, Bluepoint will be doing another remake that's even bigger than Shadow of the Colossus:

"This project served us as a great point of growing the art team to the point where we can take on a full triple-A game major scope of art content. So now our next step is, let's improve the art pipeline, let's improve the engine, let's improve workflow for artists, let's grow on the art side some more to handle our next project because it's a bit bigger. And our next focus is, all right, let's work on design and add new stuff to get to the next remake, because now that can be our sole focus of making sure that's where we put the time and everybody else, they're already at a level where we can perform."

There are countless possibilities that would fit the bill of Bluepoint's next remake, but a vocal community online is hopeful that the studio might be working on a Demon's Souls remake. From Software's first game in the "Soulsborne" series, Demon's Souls is the title that would most benefit from an update, if only to expose more people to the franchise's origins. However, with the recent announcement of Dark Souls Remastered, it may be too many Souls remakes/remasters at once.

Regardless of what game is in development, it sounds as though Bluepoint is growing in size with each project it undertakes and is nearing the point where it could create its own original triple-A game, but technical director Peter Dalton says that, while the studio's technical and art teams have improved, Bluepoint would really have to look at its design prowess before it embarked on an original game:

"One area that we've not explored very deeply is, 'What does our design prowess looks like? What is our ability to build something original and to expand it, rather than just upgrading something?' and so we look at those things and we are constantly trying to enhance and strengthen the studio to get to a point where, yeah, doing original development or whatever comes our way, we're fully capable of doing it."

Bluepoint is based in Austin, Texas and is well known for its work on positively-received remakes, remasters, and ports including Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, and the Xbox 360 version of Titanfall.

Shadow of the Colossus is available now on PS4.
