The next season of Blue Exorcist is yet to be confirmed, however, most fans are hopeful of Rin's return within the next year or two. In the dramatic finale of Blue Exorcist, viewers were at the edge of their seats as they cheered the Exorcists on to retrieve the Left Eye of the Impure King from Saburota Todo, in an attempt to end the destruction of Kyoto and all its inhabitants.

Rin Okumura finally finds confidence in himself and exterminates the Impure King, eliminating all poisons and infections with his might Blue Flames, while leaving the innocent unharmed. Shockingly, this act of heroism does not eradicate the charges laid against him by the True Cross Order, and Rin is to face the Vatican - no wonder Yukio is keeping his newly discovered demonic powers a closely guarded secret. Can fans expect more of Rin's exorcist exploits and, more importantly, will he ever get out of the friend zone with Shiemi Moriyama?

Will There Be a 3rd Season?

Rin and Yukio Blue Exorcist Finale

Season 3 of Blue Exorcist has yet to be announced and, although the long wait might be a bad sign to some, take a look at the anime's timeline before losing all hope. This supernatural Anime premiered in 2011 and Season 2: Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga only followed six years later in 2017.

By using this data to predict the next season, fans could hope to see more of Rin's demon-slaying adventures on their screens some time in 2023. However, some fans suspect this might get pushed back even further, considering that mangaka Kazue Kato recently took an eight-month hiatus from Blue Exorcist and will only continue its publication in May 2022. The artist took a break from RIn's story to work on the Manga adaptation of Fuyumi Ono's novel Eizen Karukaya Kaiitan.

The Blue Exorcist Manga

Blue Exorcist Predictions

Despite the rushed ending, the Blue Exorcist creative team managed to cram 9 volumes of Manga into the first two seasons of the anime - leaving a further 15 volumes of content to still be explored. Although the anime tends to follow its own storyline, there is no harm in looking at the Manga to make predictions for the upcoming season.

The Seven Mysteries of True Cross Academy would be an intriguing plot to delve into, whereby the Academy's Principal, Mephisto Pheles entrusts the Exwires to find and exorcise the demons behind each mysterious incident. The main focus of season 3, however, is likely to revolve around the Shimane Illuminati arc, which exposes the treacherous Illuminati forces hidden among the True Cross Order, the enigmatic Nemu Takara included. The Exorcist Exams are also highly anticipated, as fans look forward to seeing whether Rin and his friends will make the cut as official Exorcists when their skills are put to the test.

Fan Theories

Rin and Yukio Okumura of Blue Exorcist

Okay, yes, Rin is a demon who wants to become an Exorcist and, according to the overly dramatic Vatican, this is just the end of the world - or maybe not. The world's ending would have been when the Impure King devastated the land with its noxious gas, poisoning every human within miles and taking down all the Exorcists in the process. This, however, was not the case because Rin intervened and put his life on the line - and yet, he is still facing a trial to determine his execution status due to his 'uncontrollable' Blue Flames. With so many reputable members of the True Cross Order in his corner, Rin will undoubtedly walk away with his life, under fierce surveillance for any lapse in loyalty of course.

Many fans don't expect Angel A Arthur to stay in power for much longer, or he may even hop over to the dark side, what with all the severe malevolence he exudes. Besides, for Rin to eventually become the next Pallidin, Angel would have to give up his title (which, besides Yukio's bizarre case, only happens after death). There will certainly be an epic battle between the young demon slayer and the Palladin, as Angel seems to be the most invested in removing Rin from the True Cross Order. However, Mephisto Pheles appears to wish only success for his half-brother, although all fans know to take everything the Trickster does with a pinch of salt.

Since the barrier between Assiah and Gehenna has already been breached, fans expect some traveling between these realms to occur in future episodes of this Shonen Anime. Rin would be a likely candidate and obvious choice, but Yukio also has the potential to join him, as viewers have already seen a glimpse of demonic powers in the second Son of Satan. Fighting his own internal battle, and already shown to be susceptible to evil influences, not many fans are uncertain that Yukio will stay on the right path, and may end up being Rin's ultimate enemy in Blue Exorcist's future.
