A new poster for DC's Blue Beetle has been unveiled. The film is centered around Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña), a teenage boy from El Paso who finds himself bonded to an alien scarab that grants him control over a powerful exoskeleton.DC's Blue Beetle is going to be a first for superhero cinema. Maridueña's Jaime Reyes will be the first Latino superhero to headline his own film. In a move indicative of this fact, Susan Sarandon revealed Blue Beetle would feature Spanish with English subtitles. The film will also feature plenty of Latin American actors, including George Lopez as Jaime's uncle Rudy, Bruna Marquezine as Jaime's love interest, Penny, and Belissa Escobedo as Jaime's younger sister, Milagros.RELATED: Xolo Maridueña Was Cast As Blue Beetle Without Having Read A Single Line Of ScriptThe new co-CEO of DC Films, James Gunn, showed off the new Blue Beetle poster that debuted at CCXP 2022. The poster is simple and showcases Jaime's alien scarab over a subtitle that reads, "Only in theaters 2023. #BlueBeetle." There are also hints of the character's color palette in the teaser: blue and black. Interestingly, there are also hints of chrome and purple, which aren't usually associated with the character.

With other DC projects slowing down, Blue Beetle is still expected to release on time. DC Films has been undergoing a major creative reshuffling under Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran's leadership. The company has also been particularly impacted by Discovery's acquisition of Warner Bros. Studios, which owns the rights to DC Films. However, Blue Beetle appears to be one project the company wholeheartedly believes in.

The new poster is a fun hint at Blue Beetle's suit. While the suit had previously been seen in set pictures, its final appearance in the film (after being touched up with special effects) remains to be seen. The poster is also just nice to look at. Its color palette is incredibly satisfying, while its simplicity makes it a great eye-catching visual.

With the only other look at Blue Beetle being the set photos that show Maridueña in costume, the poster provides audiences with the first official acknowledgment of the film's aesthetics. It doesn't reveal much - Blue Beetle is still too far away to enter the promotion phase just yet - but its reception shows audiences seem pretty excited for the character. In just two days, the tweet has already garnered more than 200,000 retweets - not bad for a minimalist teaser poster.

Blue Beetle is scheduled to be released in theaters on August 18, 2023.
