Over the past several years, more games have been releasing than ever before that take inspiration from classics in their genres. An example is any kind of Metroidvania style game, fitting into a genre defined by the classic Metroid and Castlevania games. One of the best Metroidvania games to come out in recent years has been Bloodstained: Ritual of The Night, and it seems like a sequel is on the way.

After his 2014 departure from Konami, former Castlevania produce Koji Igarashi decided to form an indie studio called ArtPlay. Soon after, Igarashi and ArtPlay began developing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Nighta spiritual successor to Castlevania of sorts. With an immensely successful Kickstarter campaign, and with the help of publisher 505 Games, fans would be able to play a new gothic action-adventure on modern platforms.

Digital Bros, the Italian videogame company that owns 505 Games, recently presented its FY2020/2021 Q3 results, and in the process basically confirmed a sequel for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is on the way. This Q3 presentation shows off Digital Bros' IP portfolio, with owned IP like Ghostrunner or Gems of War, in addition to co-owned IP that the company has "long term agreements" with. Bloodstained is one of the latter properties, and while Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night keeps adding new content, the long term agreement with ArtPlay probably extends further.

In a slide dedicated to BloodstainedRitual of the Night, it explicitly states that a "second version [is] in development." At first, this seems like it could be referencing an upgraded version that is geared toward newer consoles. However, in the following slide, Ghostrunner also has the note about a second version being in development, and Ghostrunner 2 is already confirmed. Plus, given that the native language for Digital Bros is Italian, this presentation has likely been translated into English.

Nothing has bee outwardly confirmed by ArtPlay or 505 Games yet, but every indication points towards a Ritual of the Night sequel. The developers aren't opposed to expanding the world of Bloodstained, and have previously created a spin-off to Ritual of the Night in the form of retro prequel Curse of the Moon. This game also got a sequel last year, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2.

Hordes of players have enjoyed slaying demons in Bloodstained, and it has been immensely successful as an indie release. It is a smart move from a developer standpoint to continue expanding a popular title, but fans will just have to wait for more official information.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is available on mobile devices, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
