When fans remake games, they often do so in an effort to make the original look better, or bring something older into the modern gaming era. Then there are those who like to wind the clock back a bit. Colloquially known as "demakes," some developers are keen to take something more modern and make it look like it came out twenty or more years ago. Take the Castlevania-style game that looks like a demake of Resident Evil Village, as a recent example. There is also a Bloodborne PS1-style game currently being made by a fan, and some additional footage has just been uploaded.

A ten-minute piece of footage from the Bloodborne fan game, aptly titled Bloodborne PSX, shows the current progress of the demake which is being developed by one person, Lilith Walther. The video on her YouTube channel shows the opening cutscene of the game, and the first moments of actual play. It also has the menu screen, where the player customizes their character. What's also interesting is it looks as though there's a white mark in the top left of the screen. This appears to be an intentionally placed bit of fake screen glare, to really add that touch of old school technology authenticity.

The footage looks very impressive, with a true PlayStation 1 aesthetic as well as an accurate reimagining of the original game's beginning moments. Walther says that, at the moment, she is only really planning to make the game up to and including the first two bosses. This means the demake will probably not go further than Bloodborne's Cleric Beast and Father Gascoigne. However, she does say that the game will be free as and when it gets released.

Some other Bloodborne PSX gameplay footage emerged not that long ago, showing the player fighting Father Gascoigne. That video was labelled as a work-in-progress, but this new footage shows that there have been some tweaks and improvements to the visuals. The video description even says that some of the content has had some "polish" with a couple of additions put into this version as well.

While there are rumors of a Bloodborne remaster or PC port going around, Walther's demake is a project that is seemingly going in the opposite direction, at least visually. Fan demakes or even full retro-style games are currently in vogue. While Bloodborne PSX may not recreate the entirety of the game, it's still a mightily impressive game made by someone who clearly loves the original.

Bloodborne is available on PS4.
