When Bloodborne was released for PS4 back in 2015, it found a home among those more masochistic players who favor something a mite more challenging. As a successful horror gothic game, not much can surpass its gloomy atmosphere and punishing gameplay. For that reason, one dedicated fan has spent the past thirteen months working on a PS1-style "demake" of the first few hours of the game, and it looks as though it's proving to be very popular, despite only releasing a couple of days ago.

In a post on her Twitter page recently, developer Lilith Walther, who goes by the handle @b0tster, has expressed joy at her demake of Bloodborne being downloaded more than 100,000 times within 24-hours of it being released. A screenshot posted along with the tweet shows that, at the time of the post going live, Walther's retro-style version of the game had seen 108,000 downloads in total. The day before, it had surpassed 50,000 downloads, showing just how popular it's been and how long fans have been waiting.

On top of that, Walther has also uploaded a new patch, version 1.03, which she says fixes some known bugs in Bloodborne PSX. One of the big issues was with one of the game's easier bosses the Cleric Beast, in which players would notice it falling through the floor. The new update fixes this by killing the creature if it does fall through the world again and ends up in the game's void. There were also other issues with enemies not always dropping items, which should now have been rectified.

Bloodborne PSX was finally released a couple of days ago, after the creator spent more than a year working on it. It's generally an impressive demake of a beloved game, with people praising the work that's been put into it. While it doesn't represent the entirety of the original PS4 game, it does showcase a large chunk of it, which, considering the number of downloads at the time of Walther's tweet, is still proving to be popular.

As one of the best From Software releases, the nearly 7-year-old game is obviously still being enjoyed by fans, and the PSX demake is a fitting homage to the original. With Walther being pleased with how well the game is currently doing, it will be interesting to see whether she continues to add to it, or whether she has any other projects up her sleeve.

Bloodborne PSX is available now on Itch.io, while the original Bloodborne is available on PlayStation 4.
