‘Bloodborne’ Slightly Delayed To March 2015

By | 2 years ago

Delays for anticipated games tend to evoke a mixture of both positive and negative feelings. On one hand, it’s disappointing that a longer wait than expected lies ahead; on the other, more development time has (almost) never been bad for a game. Given how many disappointing launches gamers have seen of late, it seems safe to take the stance that if the team behind a product thinks it’s worth the delay, then take all the time needed.

Today’s delay comes from From Software and their upcoming PS4 exclusive: Bloodborne. Initially revealed during E3 2014 earlier this year, the game was only given a February 2015 release window for Japan, though many expected (and hoped) that it would also serve as a worldwide release date.

On the PlayStation Blog, Masaaki Yamagiwa, Producer for Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio announced that the game is being delayed by a month, noting that it was a reveal made with some regret. That said, it’s not a massive delay that some other games have received this year, meaning the wait that fans have ahead of them isn’t getting too much harder to live with.

Additionally, Bloodborne won’t have to contend with the likes of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Evolve, or fellow PS4 exclusive, The Order: 1886. Yamagiwa explains:

“While development continues unabated, we would like our team to deliver the best possible final experience. We were gratified by the feedback and data we received from those who participated in our limited Alpha test. The extra production time will also allow us to better integrate these learnings.”

In the meantime, look forward to more Bloodborne news to come in early December. While that particular information wasn’t teased or hinted at, one could speculate that it might be related to a potential closed beta test, demo, or definitive release date. ‘Early December’ also coincides nicely with Sony’s PlayStation Experience community event, which runs from December 6, 2014 to December 7, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It would certainly be an appropriate place for From Software or Sony to share more details about the game, as it’s even on the list of games set to make an appearance.

How do you feel about games being delayed? The current consensus seems to be that a pushed launch date is acceptable, so long as the extra time is used to actually polish the product ahead of release.

Bloodborne is now scheduled to release on March 24, 2014 for PS4. Don’t forget to make that date adjustment on your calendars.
