Bloodborne is just as hard as any other Soulslike game. It has tough bosses, surprising ambushes, and enemies that do their utmost to have the players' blood spilled. While the games may differ in many ways, there are some things that stayed consistent from Bloodborne to Dark Souls: summoning friends or NPCs for assistance, dodging (even though in this game it's a dash, instead of a roll), and spells, also known as Hunter Tools.

With Hunter Tools replacing spells, fans of previous FromSoftware games had to acclimate to a new system. However, that doesn't mean the Hunter Tools can't help players throughout the game, so here are the best of the lot.

10 Messenger's Gift

Starting with the least powerful, and probably most niched Hunter Tool the Messenger's Gift. Leaving messages for fellow players experiencing the same journey in a FromSoftware games has been around since Demon Souls back in 2009.

Messages are also in Bloodborne, and the Messenger's Gift allows the player to become one. Using this Hunter Tool will cost you a single Blood Bullet or Silver Bullet. Fans that hate being invaded could use this spell to hide while they make their way to the boss room.

9 Choir Bell

The Choir Bell is a Hunter Tool that has pretty good usage. It heals the player and removes status effects. Since this Hunter Tool cast an area of effect, players can use it to help out friends they've summoned.

This Hunter Tool can be discovered after players defeat Micolash, Host of The Nightmare. Unless players have struggled their way to the middle of the game, using many Blood Vial along the way, they won't have much use for the healing properties of the Choir Bell; although, it is helpful when dealing with enemies that cause Frenzy.

8 Augur Of Ebrietas

Ebrietas, Daughter Of The Cosmos

Much like Emit Force, a miracle from Dark Souls, Augur of Ebrietas shoots tentacles from the players' arm, knocking down and dealing damage to enemies in the way. Its range is limited, so players looking to use this Hunter Tool should be comfortable with close-quarters evasion.

Augur of Ebrietas is useful in Arcane builds since it has an S scaling. It also works in builds that have at least 18 points in the Arcane. Meeting that threshold allows players to use 7 other  Hunter Tools.

7 Beast Roar

Werewolves Werewolf Bridge Cleric Beast Bloodborne

Fans that have played Dark Souls and discovered the Dragon Covenants would be familiar with the dragon roar. The Beast Roar is the same as the dragon roar. This Hunter Tool produces an area of effect around the player that knocks down enemies.

While it cost nothing but stamina in the Souls games, Beast Roar requires the player to have 15 Arcane. Like Force (a miracle from Dark Souls), the use of this Hunter Tool will be limited, but it is great in ambushes.

6 Tiny Tonitrus

Players who are looking for a Hunter Tool that is ranged and is more effective than most firearms will enjoy the Tiny Tonitrus. Players can summon a stream of lighting that travels along the ground toward a locked-on enemy. Its bullet usage is high, costing 6 Blood or Silver Bullets.

This Hunter Tool can be useful for targeting a single enemy like a boss. Some bosses give players the hardest time when they're low on the verge of death, so finishing them off with this Hunter Tool can make the job easier.

5 Executioner's Glove

Fans familiar with the Soulmass spells will feel at home using the Executioner's Glove. This Hunter Tool sends out three homing projectiles that lock on to enemies.

At its base Arcane requirement (20), it does decent damage, but it gets more significant due to its S scaling. It's great for dealing with groups of enemies or even a single one that players want to burst down.  It's effective in most boss fights, namely Rom, The Vacuous Spider.

4 Madaras Whistle

One of the weirdest yet coolest Hunter Tools would have to be Madaras Whistle. In all of the Soulsborne games, there hasn't been anything quite like it. Upon using this Hunter Tool, a giant snakes mouth comes out of the ground and chomps on any enemy the player has targeted.

This will knock many enemies over, with the exception of large mobs and bosses. This Hunter Tool is best used in PVP since there's no indication of attack except for a whistle. The player using this tool will not be hindered in any way.

3 A Call Beyond

A Call Beyond in Bloodborne

The most costly Hunter Tool in Bloodborne will require the player to have an Arcane level of 40. It's a steep price that may require the player to create a new character. A Call Beyond summons a lot of small projectiles that spread out and converge on a target.

This Hunter Tool will take about two seconds to cast, leaving the player unable to move for the allotted time. Compared to cast times in the other Souls games, A Call Beyond is a fast and useful tool that is great against all enemies.

2 Empty Phantasm Shell

For players that are more interested in attacking with their own trick weapon, the Hunter Tool Empty Phantasm Shell is great. Imbuing your weapon in Souls games is common with magic, miracles, and hexes, so it would have been odd if this sort of thing wasn't in Bloodborne.

It cost three Silver Bullets to use this tool, and it adds 80 flat damage without any upgrades. This Hunter Tool is perfect for DPS builds or ones with fast, dexterous weapons.

1 Old Hunter Bone

While Dark Souls 2 saw the addition of a new stat (agility) that increased the player's invincibility frames when dodging, FromSoftware took a step in the other direction with Bloodborne.

The Old Hunter Bone is great for any build, and it only requires 15 Arcane. This item allows the player faster dodging while also concealing their movement in a veil of dust. The buff last sixteen seconds, assisting the player like no other Hunter Tool.
