Bloober Team, along with a Polish film and animation studio Platige Image, is turning its 2021 psychological game The Medium into a TV series. This means the horror developer's latest release will join the ranks of other adaptations, including Resident Evil, The Witcher, and the upcoming HBO take on The Last of Us, not to mention the indie sleeper hit The Mortuary Assistant. It seems that turning video games into a TV show is currently in vogue, and while it's not always a successful endeavor, many fans of Bloober's title will no doubt be keen to see how it translates to the small screen.

When it launched last year, The Medium became one of 2021's best horror games, up there with the likes of Chernobylite, Little Nightmares 2, Returnal, and Resident Evil Village. It was particularly noteworthy for its split-screen gameplay mechanics, in which players would control Marianne in two separate worlds at the same time. While it did receive pretty favorable reviews, some fans were concerned about the way the studio handled the subject of mental illness, though in general the game has been praised for taking cues from classic survival horror titles like Silent Hill.

The TV adaptation of The Medium has been mentioned in a recent post on Bloober's website, saying that the developer's own Piotr Babieno, who worked as a writer on the game, as well as being president of Bloober, will be overseeing the show. The team has signed an agreement with Platige Image, which, along with animation, also did VFX for the 2009 horror art film Antichrist, which starred Willem Dafoe. Babieno expresses excitement about the adaptation, saying that the film and games industry are "close to my heart." There's very little information about the upcoming TV series, but it can be assumed it will follow the same story as the game. However, that's only speculation at this stage.

The Polish game developer has been on a few people's lips lately, especially in the horror community, with the team possibly being at the helm for the heavily rumored Silent Hill 2 remake. As it stands, nothing on this front has been confirmed, but the signs are pointing to The Medium studio taking the reins on this one, if indeed it is true.

As if that wasn't enough, Bloober Team also announced a new Layers of Fear game, which will simply be called Layers of Fears. It seems Babieno and crew are keeping busy with a number of horror outlets, although one of them is still only rumored at this stage. In any case, more details about the TV adaptation of The Medium will hopefully be inbound soon.

The Medium is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
