Fans of Blizzard's real-time strategy games will be pleased to hear that there's surprising news regarding Warcraft 3 going around today. According to a new report, Blizzard will be hosting a secret, offline event at the end of the month and have invited many of the world's best Warcraft 3 players and professionals. There is no news regarding what will take place at this event, but given the invitees, some Warcraft reveals may be forthcoming.

The news comes from GoodGame.ru, a Russian outlet that spoke with two Russian Warcraft 3 players who were seeking US visas to attend the event. One of the Russian players, known as Happy, provided a comment on the upcoming event:

"While I can not disclose the details, I was allowed to hint. At the end of this month, there will be a certain offline event - what will be there is still a secret. Because this event will take place in the US - I will need to make a visa." ... "I can not reveal the big details yet. But I was told announcement soon."

Happy's acknowledgment of the event, as well as his description of an "announcement" yet to be revealed, implies that Blizzard definitely isn't just holding this event for fun. Could a Warcraft 3 remaster, remake, or sequel be in the works?

Secret Warcraft 3 Event at Blizzard - Gameplay

Blizzard's upcoming event won't be the start of the rumors regarding a Warcraft RTS-related announcement in the works at Blizzard; fans have been speculating about a Warcraft 3 rerelease for several years. Last year Blizzard even released a Public Testing Realm and patch for the game, despite its age. Blizzard's continued interest in the RTS is clear, but the extent of it is where the mystery lies.

Would fans support a full-fledged Warcraft 4? StarCraft 2 struggled to find a place in the market, implying that real-time strategy games may not fit into the modern gaming economy like they used to. But then again Blizzard remained dedicated to the game and even released a remastered version of the original StarCraft.

If an announcement is forthcoming, it seems more than likely that it will be for a Warcraft 3 remaster. Blizzard remastering StarCraft shows that the studio is willing and capable of completing such a project quickly. Any project larger than a remaster would probably be saved for an event like BlizzCon. Of course, if a remaster proves successful then who is to say whether Blizzard might consider something larger down the road?

Warcraft 3 is available now on PC.
