The next generation of consoles has given players plenty to discuss and become excited about. The Xbox Series X has boasted impressive specifications and despite some concerns about its game roster many are looking forward to the release of the console. However, the price of the next-generation consoles is still a mystery and many fans are keen to find out more information. Unfortunately, the VP of Blizzard does not think players will have a price point for the Series X or PS5 for a "while."

Many have been impressed with the Xbox Game Pass and its plans for expansion with the Xbox Series X. Yet having a wide array of games on a relatively cheap subscription is only truly beneficial to consumers if the system is also competitively priced. At the moment no console has made it clear what price range they will sell consoles at and this looks set to continue.

Former Xbox employee, Albert Penello, detailed the decision for Sony to make the DualShock 4 incompatible with the PlayStation 5 and Mike Ybarra of Blizzard gave their thoughts on the current situation. The Executive Vice President of Blizzard explained that the controller controversy does not matter when looking at the bigger picture for the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Instead, Ybarra claimed that "The price of the box console and the quality of the exclusive games are the deciding factors" while adding that the influence of peers will also impact the success of both consoles. Despite noting the importance of the quality and the pricing Ybarra conceded that "Price won't be known for a while, unfortunately."

Many will be disappointed at this news as there had been rumors that the PS5 and Xbox Series X would be priced this month. Many will no wonder what the next Xbox event which is scheduled for this month will feature if not new games or pre-order bundles. There may well be a technical deep dive into the consoles as a way to justify the price of the upcoming systems and this could be an effective way to demonstrate value before asking consumers to invest. Nonetheless, with many players believing that an announcement was incoming it will be interesting to see how they react to a longer wait than anticipated.

With the PS5 and Series X set for a release in the holidays of this year, many will expect an official pricing and pre-order offering soon. After all, if it is a "while" before a price point is released some players might not be able to budget for the console. With this in mind, leaving the price announcement late could damage the commercial success of both consoles.

The Xbox Series X and PS5 are slated to release the holiday 2020.
