Being able to establish a monopoly and dominate the competition is never an easy feat to accomplish in any field. With the tastes and passing trends in modern video games, it takes a special group of people and an inspired property to earn serious loyalty, but Blizzard has turned the challenge into an art form.

World of Warcraft continues to be synonymous with the term MMO, but rather than simply count their blessings and call it a day, a recent interview has revealed that they still have big plans for the company's future.

Apparently the minds behind WoW have been hard at work on a brand new game for some time, and even this early on, the company's COO is claiming that the finished product will once again exceed the gaming world's wildest expectations.

We've known for some time that the developer was recruiting talent for Titan, the name of their next project. What the game is, or how the company plans to establish a brand new MMO alongside the biggest heavyweight in the genre is still being kept under wraps.

Sharing a name with a heavenly body automatically conjures up images of a science-fiction property, which only adds more questions to the mix. Will it include space flight, a new alien world, or the ability to traverse different star systems like Mass Effect?

Maybe we can cut to the chase and ask the question that has been on everybody's mind of late: is this finally World of StarCraft? Blizzard has never confirmed that an MMO was planned for their other massively popular PC franchise, but perhaps the company shut down a user-made version of the game to avoid being beaten to the punch.

In a recent interview with VentureBeat, Blizzard's Chief Operating Officer Paul Sams wouldn't give any specific details about Titan, but did confirm that the game is going to be a major player in the MMO arena:

"As to our new unannounced game, we believe that it will be more complementary than competitive. And while people do have a limited amount of free time that they can devote to these types of games, we do think that people will want to check out the new and the old. We think the new one is very compelling and is going to capture a lot of hearts and minds and will be very successful for us. But we also believe that many people will continue playing World of Warcraft because they have such a huge collection of friends and community. We have taken some of our most experienced developers and put them on this project. We believe we have a dream team. These are the people who made WoW a success. We are going to blow people’s minds."

It doesn't take much to believe that Blizzard's next property will be built to high standards, but to hear that their best developers are forging a similar experience to WoW in a new artistic direction is almost too good to be true. Sadly, if the company keeps to its track record, we may never see the game in any form for another few years.

We could complain, but Blizzard has earned the right to take their time with releases, and the twelve million WoW subscribers are proof that the wait is usually worth it. We don't know how long the team has been developing Titan, but we can predict that it will benefit from the numerous the lessons learned from the successes and failures of WoW, StarCraft 2 and possibly even Diablo III.

We'll remain cautiously optimistic that Titan will actually turn out to be World of StarCraft, since the opportunity to step into a universe of Zerg, Terrans, and Protos is one we surely wouldn't miss. An RPG that gave players the chance to move from world to world within a greater narrative was tried with Star Trek Online, but Blizzard's take on the concept could definitely be mind-blowing.

What's your take on the still-unannounced project? Do you have your own theories on Blizzard's plans for the potential companion or successor to World of Warcraft? Now is your chance to speak up and be heard.

We'll bring you any and all details that Blizzard is willing to divulge on the secret project, but given their history, we won't be holding our breath.
