Last year, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft director Ben Brode left Blizzard to form a studio with fellow ex-Blizzard dev Hamilton Chu called Second Dinner. Now Second Dinner has some exciting news to share, including some details about its first major gaming project since its formation in 2018.

Having secured a $30 million investment from NetEase, Second Dinner has obtained a license from Marvel to work on a new game for mobile devices. We're not quite sure what the game will entail, but we do know that it will be developed at the studio's new office, located in Irvine, California.

Speculation points to the unannounced Marvel mobile game from Second Dinner being a card game like Hearthstone. Considering the success Brode and Chu had with Hearthstone at Blizzard, it would make sense for the duo to continue working on digital card games, and with the Marvel license at their disposal, the new game should have a built-in fanbase.

The collectible card game structure also lends itself well to mobile platforms, which is what the Marvel game will be releasing on. There's been no word on a potential PC release as well, but given Blizzard's long history with PC gaming, and the fact that Hearthstone itself is available on PC, it wouldn't exactly be surprising to see that happen eventually.

It will be interesting to see if Second Dinner's Marvel game is similar to Hearthstone or if it's something else entirely, but fans will just have to stay tuned to find out for sure. In the meantime, with Second Dinner's funding in place and its Marvel license secure, the developers can get to work on whatever vision they have for the project. Depending on the scope of the project, it's possible we could have more concrete information later this year, though it may be 2020 or even later before fans learn more about what Second Dinner is cooking up.
