Hearthstone players may be working towards more than moving up in rankings and opening card packs as they work through the newly added Scholomance Academy expansion. A new rumor suggests that Blizzard may be in the process of adding a battle pass to the popular digital card game.

As reported by a popular fan site of the game, a survey was sent out to Hearthstone players to gauge interest in the concept. According to the survey, Blizzard is looking to replace the current set up within the game, which provides daily quests for players and gold as a reward. Sometimes the daily quests will involve delving into the single player game play the game offers.

Though more details could be revealed at next year's virtual Blizzcon, it looks like the battle pass would completely replace the current program with the intent on releasing one with every new expansion added to the game. The new system would add the need to earn experience to level up to a max level of 100. As the player progresses they would earn tiered rewards a long the way. Rewards would not be limited to just gold as the survey indicates the possibility of earning expansion packs for current and older expansions, arena tickets, and new card backs.

Despite Blizzard having to change tournament formats to online only due to Covid-19, Hearthstone still remains successful for the company. With the rise of competitors like Magic: The Gathering Online it's a wonder if the battle pass is in response to a tight competition or simply an opportunity for growth within the game.

Hearthstone is available for PC, Android, and iOS.
