The first month of 2019 has turned out to be tumultuous time for Activision Blizzard, as some of the company’s top managers are leaving. Activision Blizzard's CFO, Spencer Neumann, will be joining Netflix, and Blizzard Entertainment's CFO, Amrita Ahuja, will be entering a new position at Square Inc. Following these changes, Activision has now also revealed as part of its SEC filing this week that Blizzard's former president and co-founder, Mike Morhaime, will also be leaving the company in April.

In October last year, Morhaime stepped down from his position as the head of Blizzard and signed an agreement with Activision Blizzard to join the board as a special advisor. Since then, Morhaime has provided strategic advice to the company, but as of April 7, 2019, that agreement will conclude and he will no longer be part of the company at all. It is very likely that Morhaime planned to retire from his position as head of the company last year, but may have decided to stay on a bit longer as an advisor to reassure investors.

J. Allen Brack took over Morhaime's position as head of Blizzard after running its biggest title, World of Warcraft, with big success for a long time. Morhaime, who co-founded Blizzard in 1991 as Silicon & Synapse, and had been a leader in the company ever since then, has previously expressed his great confidence in Brack, and has assured that the company is in good hands.

While Morhaime's departure in April may not have a significant impact on the future of the company, it looks as if other divisions of Activision Blizzard have been greatly affected by the recent structural changes made to the company. After splitting with Activision, Bungie recently announced that it will self-publish Destiny, and Blizzard has received a lot of criticism recently after the announcement of the mobile game, Diablo Immortal, among other things. Despite this, gamers may yet see more great games from these companies in the future.
