A brand-new trailer and visual for the upcoming BLEACH: Thousand Year Blood War has been revealed. The new arc will be a continuation of the BLEACH storyline, and will be adapting the climactic final battle between the Shinigami of Soul Society and the Quincies.

The new trailer and key art were debuted at Anime Expo 2022, which took place between July 1 and July 4. It opens with a voice-over by 1st Division Captain, Shigekuni Genryūsai Yamamoto, detailing the threat posed by the revival of the Quincy King, Yhwach, to protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki. The key art and trailer can be seen below.

The trailer reintroduces some of the series’ heroes, as well as the names and likenesses of the some of the Quincy generals who will appear during the progression of the arc. It also shows a full shot of the entire squad of Sternritter operatives working alongside the Quincy King juxtaposed with a similar shot of the Shinigami.

It concludes with a list of the series’ cast and the members of staff who will be responsible for its production. Cast members who voice characters yet to appear in an official BLEACH anime will be reprising their roles for the BLEACH: Brave Souls video game, which features characters as they are at the very end of the series. Character designer Masashi Kudō returns to his role, while the veteran director Tomohisa Taguchi (Kino's Journey; Persona 5) will be at the helm. Studio Pierrot, the studio which produced the original anime. The trailer also featured fresh dramatic music reminiscent of the series’ original score composed by the legendary Shiro Sagisu.

BLEACH: Thousand Year Blood War Sternritter

Original series creator Tite Kubō explained in an interview with Anime News Network that the anime series would be getting a fresh coat of paint, which is evident in the series of shots and brief scenes highlighted in the trailer, as well as the general feel of the various previews of the upcoming BLEACH anime that have been released thus far. He expressed excitement at the direction taken with the animation, and is very involved in its development. The return of BLEACH was first confirmed in 2020 as part of the announcement of the commencement of two new projects, one of which was the BLEACH spin-off manga and anime series, Burn the Witch. The official October 2022 premiere date of the upcoming BLEACH project was revealed in a trailer that was released in December 2021.

The Thousand Year Blood War arc will premiere on TV Tokyo in October 2022, with Viz Media premiering the show in English. The new arc will be the adaptation of volumes 55-71 of the original manga which was published in Shōnen Jump from 2001 to 2016. The original TV anime of BLEACH debuted in 2004, running for 366 episodes between October 2004 and March 2012, with four animated movies being released in that period. A live-action adaptation of BLEACH was released in 2018.
