Bloober Team has firmly established itself as a force in the horror gaming genre. Layers of Fear has become a recognizable horror franchise, and Observer was a thoroughly creepy cyberpunk horror mashup. Next up for Bloober Team is a Blair Witch video game, based on the film franchise of the same name, and it's out on August 30. Appropriately, Bloober Team is keeping much of the game a secret so fans can unravel the mystery for themselves, but one thing about the game that isn't a secret anymore is about how long it takes to beat.

Speaking to VentureBeat, Blair Witch game writer Barbara Kciuk revealed about how long it will take someone to beat the upcoming horror game. "It depends on how you play," Kcuik said. She then added, "The forest is an open space, so you have many ways to explore it. You can go straight through the plot or allow yourself to get sidetracked. It should take around six hours, but it depends on how you play through it."

A six hour playtime is pretty much par for the course for these kinds of "walking simulator" horror games. With Blair Witch clocking in at around six hours, that means it's about the same length as Bloober Team's Observer, and longer than the Layers of Fear games. According to game playtime aggregate site How Long to Beat, the first Layers of Fear is around three hours, whereas the sequel is a little under six hours.

While some may be disappointed that Blair Witch is "short" compared to some other games, six hours is actually pretty appropriate for its genre. Now, the trick will be for Bloober Team to ensure that Blair Witch is consistently entertaining and scary throughout the six hours, and while we can't say for sure if it lives up to expectations, the game certainly shows promise.

Bloober recently released a new story trailer for Blair Witch that shows how the main character Ellis will struggle with his sanity while exploring the Black Hills forest. Ellis has his trusty dog Bullet at his side, but otherwise he is alone in the woods, at the mercy of the terrifying supernatural events that start to occur all around him. This story trailer certainly makes Blair Witch look like one of Bloober Team's most disturbing efforts yet, so it will be exciting to see if it lives up to expectations.

Blair Witch launches on August 30 for PC and Xbox One.
