A new synopsis for the upcoming Blade project being developed by Marvel Studios and Disney may have been released online prematurely. This Blade will be the canon version of the character for the new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) storyline.

For those who don't know, Blade is a superhero from the Marvel comic books who is a vampire hunter. The character is known as the "Daywalker" because he has both human and vampire blood, which allows him to be in sunlight without being harmed. He got this "gift" because his mom was bit by a vampire while she was pregnant with him.

Marvel Studios first announced plans to officially reboot Blade during its 2019 San Diego Comic-Con presentation. Since then, there have been few details on plans for the reboot, but a supposed leaked production listing may provide insight into how Marvel Studios plans to depict Blade in the MCU. The synopsis that got released reads, "Himself a half-human/half-vampire, 'Daywalker' Eric Brooks (Ali) has honed his abilities to hunt down the undead who have long terrorized mankind. A human-vampire hybrid since his tragic birth, Blade has spent his long life seeking to rid the world of vampires like the one that killed his mother. Over the years, he has mastered his own style of fighting monsters of all kinds." If true, it sounds like Marvel Studios plans to stick close to the source material and the many storylines that have starred the famous vampire hunter. The listing also says production begins in the late summer of 2022, so fans shouldn't expect a Blade release date until sometime in 2023-2024, at the earliest.

Oscar/Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali (True Detective, Luke Cage, Green Book, Moonlight) will be playing the titular character Blade/Eric Brooks, so fans should rest assured knowing that the character is in good hands. With a script penned by Stacy Osei-Kuffour (Watchmen, Hunters, Run) and Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli and Ghosts of Sugar Land) as director, this film will potentially be something unique for the world of Marvel. By tapping into talent that has the credentials and skills rather than "buzz" around their name, this project will no doubt be something worth checking out.

Fans of Marvel's "street-level" heroes (Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Moon Knight) may be interested in this project because Blade typically hunts in the night while vampires are active, going straight to their hideouts and hunting them down one by one. Similar to these street leveled heroes who operate in the night, Blade is often occupied handling his specific fight and will, from time to time, join the Avengers if needed. Blade's fight to stop the vampires isn't a selfish one though, as they're usually plotting something that affects all of humanity.

That said, fans shouldn't get confused and think that Blade is just a "low-level" hero. He possesses superhuman strength, superhuman speed, superhuman durability, superhuman agility, superhuman senses, a regenerative healing factor, expert-level marksmanship, expert-level swordsmanship, and hand-to-hand combat skills. So, Blade is not someone to be taken lightly and fans will see that many vampires fear him so much that merely mentioning his name instills terror.

Blade is currently in development at Marvel Studios.
