Fans eager to play Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition will have to wait a little longer, as the game has officially been delayed out of 2020 with no new release date in sight.

Developer Nightdive Studios announced the delay of Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition in an interview with Eurogamer published today, citing difficulties including being unable to locate the original source code of the 1997 PC hit.

Nightdive Studios announced Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition earlier this year, but the original source code was lost shortly after the game's developer, Westwood Studios, was purchased by EA after Blade Runner's release. Nightdive Studios is also having difficulty communicating with EA regarding further content related to the game, according to CEO Stephen Kick. Beyond that there may also some legal hurdles that would have to be jumped through to re-purpose the original content.

Without access to the source code, Nightdive Studios has to work backwards and reverse engineer the existing code, which has apparently proven quite difficult. Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition received a trailer in early September along with another project the developer is working on, a remaster of the N64 classic, Shadow Man. While Blade Runner is having difficulties, development of Shadow Man: Remastered is still on track.

Meanwhile Nightdive Studios is days away from the release of Strife: Veteran Edition on the Nintendo Switch. Originally developed by Rogue Entertainment in 1996, Strife is a first-person shooter reminiscent of the original Doom with some light RPG elements, in which players face off against a religious organization known as The Order.

Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition is in development for the Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
