The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been known for its incredible way of using its source material. In most cases, the movies in this universe don't exactly follow the event from the comics. They only take inspiration from its source material or make spins on them. However, in some cases, the movies will take something out from the comics and accurately display it on the big screen.

Black Widowlike many of its predecessors, also has moments like these. There are certain key scenes, moments, and even character designs from the movie those who have read the comics will recognize immediately. These are some of the things Black Widow ripped right out from the comics, much to fans' delight.

8 Mind-controlled Agents

In the movie, it is revealed that Dreykov's agents are controlled by using chemical subjugation. It is how Dreykov is able to make Black Widows do everything he wishes, including terminating themselves should the situation arise.

This plotline may be a popular trope in a lot of action movies, but this is also very true for Black Widow's storyline. In the comics, this has happened not only to Natasha Romanov but to other Widows as well. There are countless times in the comics when she'd be revealed to have been mind-controlled after performing a series of horrible actions.

7 The Red Guardian

The Red Guardian character is the Soviet Union's answer to United States's Captain America. They were rivals in the comics, until Alexei finally let go of the mantle to become Ronin.

The movie's version of the Red Guardian is somewhat identical to the comic's version. Even The Red Guardian's costume is very loyal to its source material. However, as Ursa said in the movie, it is highly unlikely that Alexei would actually have an encounter with Captain America since he would have been still on ice by then.

6 Black Widow's White Suit

Black Widow's white suit in the movie is arguably one of the character's best looks. This costume is taken right out of the 2010 Black Widow limited series Black Widow: Deadly Origin.

Interestingly, the limited series was released to commemorate the character's debut in Iron Man 2. It's fitting that an outfit that debuted in a series honoring her first appearance in the MCU appears in her last film in the franchise.

5 The Pheromones

In the movie, Dreykov ensures the Widows would never hurt him by implementing a pheromonal lock. For as long as a Widow is able to smell Dreykov, they're virtually unable to commit violence against him.

Natasha being controlled by pheromones is something that also happened to the character in the comics. However, instead of being controlled by Dreykov, she was controlled by Nick Fury. Unbeknownst to Natasha, Nick Fury had used pheromones to trick Natasha into working. This same pheromonal lock and key program was originally invented by the heads of the Black Widow agents in order to prevent them from hurting their superiors, exactly like how Dreykov implemented it in the movie.

4 The Red Room

The movie finally shows the viewers the origins of all Black Widow agents — the Red Room. Natasha first mentions this place in Avengers: Age of Ultron and the hay days of the Red Room was shown in an episode of Agent Carter. This aspect of the Black Widow character is actually very loyal to its source material.

In the comics, the Red Room Academy is responsible for creating the Black Widow Ops Program, the one that turned Natalia Romanova into a ruthless assassin. The organization behind the Red Room is known as Department X. This department is also responsible for creating the Winter Soldier and the Weapon X program that gave Wolverine his Adamantium skeleton.

3 Natasha Vs. Yelena

Natasha and Yelena's relationship in the movie is incredibly different from that in the comics. They are foster siblings in the movie. In the comics, however, both characters had no such relationship. The closest and most interesting scene between the two characters in the movie that mirror their comic book counterparts is the one where they face off against each other in Budapest.

Both characters have very similar fighting styles due to them being trained in the Red Room. In the comics, Yelena was slated to become the next Black Widow after Natasha fled Russia. When Yelena became the Black Widow, she faced off against her predecessor, who proved to be too skilled and far more experienced for her.

2 Unknown Mother

Natasha's parentage has always been one of the most enigmatic aspects of the character, both in the movies and the comics. In Avengers: Endgame, meeting the Red Skull gave Natasha a glimmer of information regarding his father, who's apparently named Ivan. However, Natasha's mother was never mentioned, until the release of Black Widow.

The movie describes Natasha's mother as resilient, who went through lengths to get to her daughter. Unfortunately, this drive led Dreykov to have her assassinated. When Natasha questioned Dreykov about her mother, he tells her he had her buried underneath a tree with pink blossoms, with a tombstone only marked with "Unknown." As unfortunate as this is, this is very similar to Natasha's story in the comics, whose mother is never revealed or is she named even once.

1 Taskmaster's Abilities

Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster in Black Widow

The movie's version of Taskmaster is very different from the one in the comics. In Black Widow, the person behind the mask is Antonia Dreykov, while in the comics, the Taskmaster moniker belongs to Anthony Masters. While this aspect of the character is different, they do exhibit the same skill set.

The movie's version of Taskmaster is shown to use the fighting styles of various heroes such as Hawkeye, Captain America, Black Panther, Winter Soldier, and Spider-Man. She is described as a perfect mimic, a combatant capable of copying fighting styles by simply looking at them. In the comics, Anthony Masters is able to do the same thing using his photographic reflexes.
