The trailer for the movie that is set to wrap up the MCU’s Phase Four is finally out after the first official preview for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was revealed on the San Diego Comic-Con stage. In it, Marvel takes an emotional turn to commemorate the passing of Chadwick Boseman while still setting up the conflict between the African nation and the kingdom of Atlantis.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ended up closing a busy night for Marvel Studios, where many announcements were made, such as the arrival of Daredevil two years from now, and two new Avengers movies for Phase Six, but She-Hulk and Black Panther were the only ones to get proper footage. While Nope star Daniel Kaluuya recently confirmed his absence from the film, Black Panther 2 already showcased practically the entirety of its returning cast, as well as a few surprises.

The opening shot focuses on Nakia, who like all of Wakanda is mourning King T’Challa as a beautiful rendition of Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry” introduces viewers to the people closest to the Black Panther, like Shuri, Okoye, and Queen Ramonda. The song definitely helps set the tone for what was always meant to be a special occasion before cutting to a piece of Atlantean history showing the birth of Prince Namor and a single shot fixed on Boseman’s face depicted in the streets of Wakanda.

How Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will address T’Challa’s death remains to be seen, yet who his replacement will be might already be taking form since his mother at some point refers to her entire family being gone, and a new Black Panther shows up in the last few frames. Some fans were quick to point out that the silhouette of this new Black Panther appears to be more female than anything else, which coupled with the colors on the suit, could be perhaps hinting at Shuri experiencing a character arc similar to her brother’s.

Okoye and the Dora Milaje are at the forefront too, which checks out considering Wakanda’s special forces will probably wage much of the fight against Tenoch Huerta’s Namor, whose character design has finally been revealed. As a bonus, Marvel Studios also announced that the prologue music for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be released on Monday; and the first poster for the movie, showing an empty Black Panther mask was posted on social media platforms at the same time.

The period from phases four through six, now officially known as The Multiverse Saga will also see the Fantastic Four join the Secret Wars storyline, meaning maybe those Dr. Doom in Black Panther rumors are not that far-fetched after all.
