While the general and, let’s admit, uninformed public might think that video games are strictly a man’s hobby, those of us in the know are well aware of the power the industry holds over both men and women. Most game publishers and developers attempt create a unisex experience that appeals evenly across the board, but occasionally some aspect of the game neglects one half of the equation. Such was the case with Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Unfortunately, in preparing their limited editions of Call of Duty: Black Ops, Activision neglected to include download codes for outfits tailor made for female Xbox 360 avatars. They have since swiftly corrected the mistake and are offering two pieces of apparel free of charge as compensation.

Included with the ton of goodies in the Hardened and Prestige Editions of Black Ops, along with an RC car that pays homage to one of the killstreaks in the game, was a set of download codes for items meant to trick out a player's avatar. Unfortunately, gamers discovered that these codes only provided gear for male avatars, and unlucky female avatars were left rocking their Halo: Reach helmets.

Today, in order to make good on their promise to deliver an awesome gaming experience that appeals to everyone, Activision has released two download codes that will net players a SR-71 flight suit and a Woods suit. The download code for the flight suit is GYVF8-PF7RY-28D7V-VGWV8-CFGRM, and the woods suit code is R76BQ-CR3MF-G2TTF-9G36R-BQWJD. Now even non Black Ops purchasers can show their support -- as long as they have a female avatar.

In a game that packs in as many features as Black Ops does, players can expect a few mistakes here and there. For Activision to move so swiftly in order to correct an error like this says a lot not only about their devotion to Treyarch’s title, but to fans of the game. With so many games releasing this holiday season, it’s best to keep your fan base satisfied, no matter what their sex. We’re just glad all gamers got what they paid for in the end.

Did any of you female gamers notice this mistake and expect not to get compensated? How has everyone been enjoying the other goodies included with the Prestige Edition -- especially the RC car?

Call of Duty: Black Ops is out now for the PS3, PC, Wii, DS, and Xbox 360.
