Players find the Zombies mode in Black Ops immensely fun and rewarding. Being able to survive wave after wave of zombies with your friends isn’t an entirely new idea, but it is incredibly awesome. However, the mode has been running a bit stale in terms of new features. Treyarch seems to agree and has definitely ramped up the amazing factor with their latest Zombies DLC, Call of the Dead, which is part of the Escalation Map Pack.
Call of the Dead will not just feature a new map for zombie slaying, but also has some pretty acclaimed celebrities lending their voices and likeness to Black Ops. Taking place on the ship from the Reznov flashback level during the campaign, players will be able to live out their zombie killing dreams as either Robert Englund (Nightmare on Elm Street), Danny Trejo (Heat, Machete), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer), or Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead, The Replacement Killers).
Actors aren’t the only new additions to Call of the Dead. Horror pioneer George A. Romero (Night of the Living Dead, Creepshow) will also be appearing in the new mode, only this time as a villain. Romero looks to be the new mini-boss obstacle akin to the dogs, Pentagon thief, or the monkeys.
Accompanying the announcement of celebrities who will be featured in Call of the Dead, Treyarch has released a trailer featuring the stars in glorious zombie killing action. Check it out below.
First off, kudos to Treyarch for getting the narrator from the Grindhouse trailers to come in and do some work. The trailer does show off some new mechanics that may be available to specific characters, such as Sarah Michelle’s kicking or Danny Trejo’s access to machetes. There has been no confirmation on whether these features will be present in the final product, but their inclusion would definitely add some new life to the Zombies mode.
In addition to the rockin’ trailer, screenshots of the upcoming DLC have been made available. Check out the gallery below.
Don’t forget to check out the map pack trailer and screenshots for Escalation, which will be coming soon. Treyarch is doing a lot of work to ensure players are keeping Black Ops in mind for both competitive and cooperative multiplayer and if Call of the Dead is any indication, they will be very successful.
The Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation DLC releases May 3, 2011, for Xbox 360. PlayStation 3 date TBA.
