While Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout battle royale mode has largely been kept under wraps, Treyarch has finally started pulling the curtain back on what the game mode will entail. Just recently, it revealed the Blackout map, confirmed that the beta will have 80 players, and also detailed the four different vehicles players will have access to. And now, Treyarch has confirmed some other details about Blackout, including the fact that split-screen for the mode is currently being tested.

This is according to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 design director David Vonderhaar, who answered 195 rapid-fire about Blackout questions as part of Game Informer's month-long coverage of the upcoming FPS. During the interview, Vonderhaar is asked if Blackout will support split-screen, and he confirmed that it's being tested and is "very feasible." Vonderhaar stopped short of saying whether or not split-screen will be "likely" for Blackout or not - presumably it all depends on how the testing goes.

Some fans may be scratching their heads as to why split-screen would be included in Blackout. After all, battle royale games are usually online-only affairs. However, split-screen support could mean that those still interested in playing games together with others on their couch could jump into a round of Blackout together, and wouldn't have to take turns.

Treyarch has a long history of supporting split-screen in its Call of Duty games. In fact, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was notable for including four-player split-screen in its Zombies mode for the first time ever, which was an impressive technical feat for the time.

If Blackout has split-screen, one has to imagine that it will only support two players, however. Blackout will have 80 players in any given game, and considering the high graphical quality, zombies, and more that Treyarch has in the mode, it seems like it will already push systems to their limit. Adding split-screen will be a challenge, but if it's successfully implemented, then it could be a big way Blackout differentiates itself from the other battle royale games on the market.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches on October 12 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
