Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is bringing new innovations to the series, like its tactical Heist Mode, and even new challenge-based weapon skins are on the way. In a first for the series, Black Ops 4 is now introducing special Signature Weapons, which are cosmetic variants of standard weapons.

Activision and Treyarch have revealed two Signature Weapons so far. The first is the MX9 submachine gun Signature Weapon, and it can be acquired starting from Day 1 for any players who bought Black Ops 4's Deluxe Editions, Pro Edition, or Mystery Box Edition. The other is the Signature Weapon variant of the Strife pistol, dubbed Divinity, which can be acquired by pre-ordering the game exclusively at GameStop. Players can acquire both Signature Weapons by pre-ordering one of the above Deluxe editions of the game from GameStop.

The new Signature Weapons look pretty sharp to start with, but unlocking their true splendor will require players to participate in in-game challenges. After completing said challenges, a Mastercraft version of the Signature Weapon will be acquired, revealing a new, epic design. Black Ops 4 players will have to work hard to unlock these weapons, but it's worth noting that the cosmetic improvement is just for show, as both the initial Signature Weapons and the Mastercraft versions will still maintain the same stats as the base weapon.

Activision showed off exactly what players who acquire the Divinity pistol can expect from it. After completing all of its challenges, players will unlock the Mastercraft variant, Divine Justice, an even more striking variant of the Strife pistol. The gold and chrome handgun is sure to stand out on kill cams, or while mowing down enemy players and zombies alike in Black Ops 4's Blackout mode.

It's not yet clear if all weapons will receive a cosmetic Signature Weapon variant, or just a select few. Mastercraft Signature Weapons are sure to stand out in-game, but gamers who want to upgrade the look of their weapons without pre-ordering or buying a more expensive edition of the game can still rely on Black Ops 4's paint jobs and emblem editor that's been confirmed to be making a return to the latest entry of the franchise.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will release for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 12th.
