Despite Treyarch's controversial decision to replace a tradition single-player campaign mode with a battle royale mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the newest installment to the Black Ops series has seen both immediate and ongoing success since its launch in October. Much of its success can be attributed to its popular battle royale mode, Blackout, as it has managed to draw in both new fans of the franchise and returning hardcore Call of Duty fans.

From its map to its characters, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout introduces some new elements to the series but seems to mainly thrive off of its popular, returning aspects. In Blackout, players can complete challenges to unlock playable characters, including many zombies characters, some whom are new and some from previous Black Ops games. While eight of the nine zombies characters can be unlocked through completing their corresponding challenges, Shadowman can only be unlocked through the purchase of Black Ops 4's season pass.

Similar to unlocking Scarlett, acquiring Shaw requires three basic steps of a single challenge: find an item, complete an action, and finish the match. To unlock Shaw, players must first find and collect the Alchemy Set item.

This item can be found from killing and looting zombies, which can spawn in five different locations. Graveyard, Asylum, and Lighthouse are all popular zombie spawns, but popularity inevitably means that the chances of being interrupted by an opposing player while trying to unlock Shaw is fairly high. This why Anvil Boxing Gym, the building halfway between Fracking Tower and Turbine, and the small building west of Array are both viable, quiet options to land. Chances of running into enemy players right off the bat will be much slimmer this way.

After obtaining the Alchemy Set, players must then collect either the Wraith Fire or Acid Bomb and kill two enemies with it. Having now killed two players and still holding the Alchemy Set in their inventory, all the player has to do is finish the match. The match must finish in its entirety, meaning that if players leave or disconnect from the match before its conclusion, they will lose their progress towards unlocking Shaw.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
