Black Ops 4: How to Unlock Shadowman in Blackout

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout battle royale mode features a number of playable characters that fans of the game can unlock, including Shadowman, the main villain from Black Ops 3's Zombies mode. However, unlike other Blackout characters, Shadowman can't be unlocked by doing anything in-game.

To unlock Shadowman in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, players have to purchase the $50 season pass, known as the Black Ops Pass. After doing so, Shadowman should be available as a playable character in Blackout, though it may take a few minutes before he will actually appear.

While some fans may scoff at the idea of buying Black Ops 4's expensive season pass just to play as Shadowman in Blackout, it's worth pointing out that the season pass comes with more than just him. It also includes immediate access to the Classified Zombies map, in addition to 12 multiplayer maps and four new Zombies maps that will be released over the course of the next year. For those that plan on investing a significant chunk of time in Black Ops 4, the season pass may be a no-brainer.

It will be interesting to see how fans react to the news that they can only unlock Shadowman by purchasing the season pass. The game is already being criticized for similar practices in regards to how new outfits are unlocked for Specialists. At the time of this writing, the only way to get new Specialist outfits in Black Ops 4 is by purchasing the Deluxe Edition, which costs a whopping $99.

Black Ops 4 purchasers that want the most bang for their buck may want to consider getting the Deluxe Edition, though. The Deluxe Edition actually comes with the season pass, so players who purchase the standard edition and decide to buy the season pass later will end up spending an extra $10 than they would if they just purchase the Deluxe Edition outright.

Moving forward, it's possible Activision and Treyarch will make the Specialist outfits and the Shadowman available in some other manner, but for now, anyone interested will need to shell out the cash for the season pass and/or the Deluxe Edition.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
