With Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 poised to arrive this weekend, Treyarch is ready to plow full steam ahead as it prepares for a massive launch that will include a gigantic 50GB update on launch day. Of course, it's not just launch day that the studio is keen to hype up: Treyarch has just tweeted a first look at the new version of the Nuketown map for Black Ops 4, revealing that the map will take place in a drastically different setting this time around.

Fans always expected a new variation of Nuketown to appear in Black Ops 4, as historically the studio has released a new rendition of the map for every iteration of the Black Ops franchise. The developers had hinted that another version of Nuketown would be included in the upcoming title and recently confirmed as such, but today's tweet is the first time fans have been able to lay eyes on it.

Interested gamers can check out the tweet below, which makes the new setting fairly obvious:

The Russian text from the tweet translates to "Visit us again...for the first time here." It combines with a snow-filled photograph to more or less confirm that instead of a quaint Retro-American style neighborhood, Nuketown will be set in snowy Russia to explore the vibe on the other side of the Cold War. The news was met with much excitement from the game's fanbase, who immediately began tweeting the USSR anthem en masse.

The winterized edition of the map won't be one of the 14 Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 maps available for the game's launch, with Treyarch confirming that Nuketown will be arriving as a post-launch update this November. A more traditional variant of the map also features in the game's Blackout mode via Nuketown Island, a sole land mass featuring familiar territory in Treyarch's take on the battle royale craze.

Treyarch didn't make any additional hints on when fans might get their first video-based look at Nuketown, though with the game due out next month it's safe to say fan won't have to wait for long. It's likely that the studio will focus on hyping up the October-based content as the game launches, with Nuketown being teased mid-to-late October ahead of its eventual release as the fittingly cold winter season approaches.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One this October 12, 2018.
