This week Treyarch posted the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launch gameplay trailer, and fans are beginning to realize that one of the most anticipated games of the year releases in just over 3 weeks. Highlighting multiplayer, zombies, and Blackout, this trailer embodies the unique gameplay that is expected to be present in the newest addition to the Call of Duty franchise.

The trailer makes a strong first impression as it opens with gameplay of Call of Duty's first ever battle royale mode, Blackout. Although somewhat controversial, Treyarch's inclusion of a battle royale mode began with much support. After having traversed the map by wingsuit and helicopter in the recent beta, the general public seems to be backing Treyarch's decision even more. While some Call of Duty campaign-lovers remain unhappy, there is hope of a post-launch campaign release. Though most of Treyarch's attention will likely be geared toward maintaining and workshopping its new installment as it competes directly with popular battle royales, Fortnite and Player Unknown's Battlegrounds.

Sitting second in the trailer's spotlight, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's zombies mode has been overshadowed by the hype surrounding Blackout. Nonetheless, the upcoming zombies' installment will present unique maps, new experiences, and gameplay tweaks for zombies' fans. Excluding the season pass and its Classified remaster, three maps will be available at launch. Even though Blackout dominates the Black Ops 4 headlines, zombies' fans can rest assured that Treyarch has had legitimate success with zombies' modes in the past, and are passionate about delivering a worthwhile zombies installment once again.

Known for its strong online multiplayer, Call of Duty is expected to produce quality multiplayer experiences with every new title, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 appears to be no exception. The gameplay seen in the trailer and experienced in August's beta carries high hopes, and unique additions and revisions to Call of Duty's online multiplayer experience may help meet those expectations. While the beta proved clunky and in need of many improvements, players mostly felt refreshed to have a traditional boots-on-the-ground Call of Duty experience that also delivered fluid gameplay.

Like all previous Call of Duty titles, Black Ops 4 has high expectations. There is no doubt that Blackout will set Black Ops 4 apart from previous games, and this is for the best for both Treyarch and Call of Duty fans. The addition of Blackout and the massive changes to the online multiplayer experience display the willingness of the franchise to bring players fresh, quality gameplay, rather than the lackluster repetitive stance on games that some developers and franchises take. Though the risky changes made in Black Ops 4 cannot receive final judgement until the game fully releases.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 releases on October 12th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
