When Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 first launched, it did so without its entire roster of playable characters in the Blackout battle royale mode. In the weeks since, Treyarch has updated the game so players can unlock everyone, including Raul Menendez, the charismatic antagonist of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Menendez, perhaps best known for his rage-fueled machete massacre in Black Ops 2, joins the likes of Alex Mason, Woods, and Reznov as Black Ops "icons" that are now playable in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Blackout players can unlock Menendez similarly to how every other character is unlocked in the game, and that's by finding an item related to the character, and then completing a set of challenges before ending the match with it in one's inventory.

Menendez's item is a locket, and as of the time of this writing, its only known location is in supply drops. Upon getting the locket, players will be asked to kill one enemy with a shotgun and another enemy with a melee attack. To make getting the melee kill a little easier, we recommend using the Brawler perk or the bowie knife, if available.

While getting two kills within these specific parameters in a match may be a little challenging, it seems like unlocking Menendez should be easier than unlocking characters like Mason or Woods in Blackout. That's because they don't just require players to finish the match after the challenges have been completed, but rather, they also ask players to finish the match under certain conditions, like getting second place. Or in the case of Woods, winning a match of Blackout in first place, which is much easier said than done.

Out of all the Black Ops villains, Menendez is easily one of the most memorable, especially since he was actually playable in part of the Black Ops 2 campaign. Whether or not some other Black Ops series villains make their way to Blackout remains to be seen, but in the meantime, it should take fans some time to unlock Menendez and the rest of the roster.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
