Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's attempt to enter the battle royale market with its Blackout battle royale mode was largely successful. However, Blackout has since lost some of the spotlight to other battle royales, most notably Respawn's Apex Legends, but Treyarch is looking to win some lapsed fans back by adding a brand new, second map to Blackout.

Treyarch had been teasing Alcatraz as a new location for Blackout, kind of like how it added the Hijacked yacht from Black Ops 2 to the game. However, it turns out that Alcatraz will actually be Blackout's second map, and it looks to provide a unique battle royale experience. Whereas most battle royale games feature wide open areas, Alcatraz will consist largely of interior locations and close-quarters combat. And as can be seen in the Alcatraz announcement trailer, this can make for some rather unique battle royale gameplay.

The Blackout Alcatraz map trailer shows off some of the bells and whistles coming to Blackout. There will be lifts for players to use to traverse from one rooftop to the next, and the map will also have zombies for players to contend with, just like the original Blackout map.

Since launch, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has received frequent updates from Treyarch, including free updates and paid DLC. The Alcatraz map will be a free update, but there is still plenty of paid DLC on the way as well. Paid expansions for Black Ops 4 add new Zombies maps like Ancient Evil, as well as maps for the standard multiplayer mode.

And just like Black Ops 4's paid DLC, the Alcatraz map will be a timed-exclusive for PS4. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 players on PS4 can download the Alcatraz map on April 2, with the PC and Xbox One release date yet to be determined.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
