Call of Duty: Black Ops 4‘s Blackout beta is scheduled to begin for PlayStation 4 users on September 10, and Treyarch is finally pulling the curtain back on some of the mode’s more intimate details. For example, we now know all of the vehicles that will be featured in Blackout.
As revealed today by Treyarch, the Blackout battle royale mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will have four different vehicles to use at launch and in the beta, including two land vehicles, one sea vehicle, and one air vehicle. The land vehicles are the ATV, which holds two people, and the Cargo Truck, which can hold five players total. The sea vehicle is the Zodiac Inflatable Boat, and it will hold up to two players. And finally, the air vehicle is the Little Bird Helicopter, which can transport five players at once.
We’ve known for awhile that Blackout would feature vehicles, but it remained to be seen exactly what vehicles would be included. The addition of a helicopter, which was teased in a previous trailer, seems like the biggest departure from other battle royale games, which have mostly avoided air-based vehicles. Since this is fairly new territory for the battle royale genre, it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
These four vehicles will be what’s available at launch and in the Blackout beta, but it’s possible that future updates will add more vehicles. After all, we’ve seen other battle royale games like Fortnite and PUBG add vehicles throughout their lifespan, so it would make sense for Black Ops 4 to do so as well.
It’s also possible that Black Ops 4 will add entirely new maps, which could come with new vehicles. We’ve seen that approach with PUBG, where the Miramar desert map came with map-exclusive vehicles that weren’t in Erangel.
Before we worry too much about the future of Black Ops 4‘s Blackout battle royale mode, we need to see how its launch goes. Come September 10, we’ll have an even better idea of how exactly Blackout will work and if it will be well-received by the Call of Duty community or not.
