Game developer Treyarch releases the official trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's forthcoming Zombies mode which shows off dragons as a part of the gameplay.

Today, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's Descent expansion has released for PlayStation 4 fans ahead of any other platform thanks to Activision's and Sony's timed-exclusive DLC partnership that was inked last year. Although PC and Xbox One players won't be able to take part in the action until August, the first-person shooter's developer, Treyarch, has put out a trailer for Gorod Krovi, which is the third installment of the game's extremely popular Zombies mode, and the studio is definitely taking the story in an even more fantastical direction than just including science fiction-styled weaponry and hordes of the undead.

According to Treyarch, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's Gorod Krovi campaign gives players who purchase the third DLC pack a whole “new Zombies experience.” While neither the developer nor the title's publisher Activision offered up explicit details as far as the in-game mechanics of Descent's Zombies mode goes, it will include “a battle between giant mechanized soldiers and ferocious dragons," which is not a description many gamers would associate with the Call of Duty franchise.

As seen in the Black Ops 3 trailer below, the characters who have experienced the horrors of Zetsubou No Shima and Der Eisendrache continue their mission in Gorod Krovi's "City of Blood" to not only stop the zombie apocalypse in this universe, but also in all of the other universes in existence. This time around, however, the stakes are even higher with gigantic, fire-breathing dragons being added into the already chaotic equation.

As some fans may remember from Black Ops 3's Der Eisendrache campaign, dragons were teased as being an enemy to eventually be faced, as players were tasked with feeding zombies to three of them around the map. Nevertheless, their bodies were not fully on display at that point, as it was only the dragons' heads coming to life after being statues.

Based on all that's been shown off thus far Black Ops 3's Gorod Krovi campaign, it will certainly be giving fans of the Zombies mode an interesting twist as far as gameplay goes. However, some gamers might not be into slaying the undead as much as others, so the Descent DLC pack also offers players four new multiplayer maps titled Cryogen, Berserk, Rumble, and Empire, which is a remake of the Black Ops 2 fan-favorite area Raid.

Black Ops 3 fans interested in all that the Descent expansion has to offer can purchase it for $15 on its own, but if they have already paid the $50 for the title's Season Pass, they ought to receive it for download as soon as it's available on their specific platform. Unfortunately, though, players on last generation consoles are stuck with the base game's materials, as Black Ops 3's Descent is the latest in Activision and Treyarch's decision to release no DLC for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is out now for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
