The race is over. One player (or rather, one account) has his the Prestige Master rank in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. The clan, which goes by the name DOOM, accomplished the feat in just over a week, reaching the multiplayer pinnacle early Friday morning.

Although only one account made it to the Prestige Master rank, the feat was actually accomplished by several Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 players. The members of the DOOM clam took shifts and played multiplayer for 24 hours straight, racking up top scores in nearly every match.

DOOM was just one of numerous clans to participate in “The Race,” an annual event that pits Call of Duty players against each other in an unofficial mad dash to hit the Prestige cap. But, as with most marathon type experiences, it wasn’t long before DOOM set itself apart from the pack, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, they were bound to hit Prestige Master first. More importantly, the DOOM clan was the first to see what happens at Prestige Master rank, as Black Ops 3 developer Treyarch promised a secret.

So what do players get for hitting Prestige Master? For starters, the highest rank in Black Ops 3 offers unlocks for every perk, weapon, attachment, and scorestreak. It also unlocks ever Specialist character, which are new pre-fab character designs for multiplayer that come complete with special abilities. Of course, these players have had access to these options at some point in time during their run, but now the account has the freedom to unlock anything at will. It’s a good thing, then, that DOOM plans to give away their Prestige Master account to one lucky follower.

It also appears as if players can customize their rank emblem after hitting Prestige Master, which we assume is the “surprise” Treyarch teased. The developer had said that this would be something that Call of Duty had never offered before, and a customizable rank emblem is new for the franchise. Whether or not it’s worth the effort required to hit Prestige (level 55) 10 times is up for debate, but some will get there in time.

That being said, it will be interesting to see just how many Black Ops 3 players reach Prestige Master rank. We know that the game sold very well during its first few days of release. According to publisher Activision, the title grossed $550 million within its first three days – a curious stat to say the least. Still, Call of Duty seems to be successful enough to warrant attention, and some players are already burning through the multiplayer at a lightning pace. Maybe not as fast as DOOM, but quick enough.

BCall of Duty: Black Ops 3 is out now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
