Activision confirms that PS3 gamers will soon be able to access the Awakening Map Pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. No news for Xbox 360 gamers, though.

Those playing Call of Duty: Back Ops 3 on a PlayStation 3 will finally be getting some new content next week, with the long-awaited arrival of the Awakening DLC. It was originally reported that the Black Ops 3 map pack wouldn't be coming to previous generation consoles, but Activision is evidently happy to keep the good times rolling. Treyarch produced a game packed to the brim with content, and the backbone of the billion-dollar annualized series has always been multiplayer.

The Awakening DLC was originally announced 3 months ago, meaning that PS3 users have been waiting a long time to hear the good news. Prior to the announcement of Awakening, though, Activision revealed a brand new microtransaction system for Black Ops 3, which allows gamers to purchase gear instead of earning it through gameplay. While not everyone may like the direction this points the series into, it probably made the idea of bringing the additional content to PS3 much more attractive to the publisher.

The Awakening Map Pack includes Skyjacked (a futuristic version of popular Black Ops 2 map Hijacked), Splash, Gauntlet, and Rise. With Rise being one of the biggest maps in the game and Splash being an abandoned water park that looks more like Splatoon leftovers than a Call of Duty map, there's no doubting that the Awakening DLC adds plenty of punch and diversity to the map arsenal of Black Ops 3. Awakening also brings in a brand new zombies map called Der Eisendrache, which is set in an Austrian castle and introduces two new wonder weapons into the fold.

Meanwhile, Xbox 360 gamers are still being left in the dark about if they'll eventually get to access the content too, thanks to a timed-exclusive agreement between Sony and Activision. Even on current genration platforms, Xbox One gamers had to wait about a month longer than their PS4-based counterparts, so if the content does eventually come to Xbox 360, gamers should expect a similar wait time.

For PS3 players, the Awakening Map Pack will arrive next Tuesday, April 5th with an expected $14.99 USD price tag. The purchase includes a static theme for the PS3 itself, though unfortunately no Season's Pass is available for those playing from the last generation of consoles. Activision has yet to announce if other Map Packs will arrive for either PS3 or Xbox 360.

With that in mind, Game Rant will keep you posted on any news in regards to the Xbox 360 getting post-release content.
