Black Ops 2 Passes Red Dead as Most Wanted Backward Compatible Game

By | 1 year ago

As one of the largest announcements made during E3 2015, backward compatibility for the Xbox One was understandably massive news for gamers. With an immense library of potential Xbox 360 games to be made available on Microsoft’s latest gaming console, fans were given the option of voting to have their favorites recognized and possibly prioritized by their developers. Surprisingly, one Call of Duty title in particular has climbed to the top of the most wanted list – Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Dethroning the previous front runner, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has usurped Red Dead Redemption as the most desired backward compatible game – beating out a number of beloved titles from the past generation in the process. Games like Skyrim, Halo: Reach, Gears of War 3, and Fallout 3 all trail behind the title, with a number of other CoD games also featured prominently on the list.

This news comes straight from Microsoft, as the company began allowing gamers to vote for their most desired Xbox 360 games not too long ago. The frontrunner, Black Ops 2, is currently sitting pretty with 78,182 votes as of this writing, with Red Dead Redemption trailing closely behind with 76,127 votes. It’s still a very close race though, so any game could believably come out on top by the time the house of Gates has grown tired of receiving fan input.

While this is surely surprising to many gamers, the reality is that Call of Duty has an absurd number of fans. This makes the fact that one of the franchise’s titles managed to climb the list and claim the coveted number one more of an inevitability than a surprise, although many first-person shooter aficionados may be surprised that this particular iteration of the series has claimed the number one seat.

Xbox One Backwards Compatible

Given the fact that there was a massive online petition to have a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 remake done for current-gen consoles (managing to amass over 150,000 signatures in the process), it’s surprising not to see that title on top. Still, with the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 set to arrive later this year, maybe fans just simply want to be able to catch up before jumping into the newest entry in the series.

There’s certainly no shortage of games we’d like to see made backward compatible on Xbox One, and it’s a safe bet to assume that consumers each have their own preferred title. Provided Xbox One owners aren’t in the preview program, it’ll still be a little bit longer before the service is open to the public. With that in mind, stay tuned to Game Rant for more news on Xbox One’s impending backward compatibility update.
