Nothing official has been released so far concerning the next installment of the Call of Duty brand, and given Activision‘s track record that won’t be the case for long. But an early leak seems to unveil the official logo for Black Ops 2, and promises that more information on the game will be coming on April 28, 2012.
The new leak may not clear up any of the new multiplayer game mode details that previously surfaced, but will surely get fans of online multiplayer talking. We’ve been hoping that more information would arrive on exactly how as contained and historically-anchored a narrative as Black Ops could be given a sequel in Black Ops 2, and whether or not the same cast of characters would be returning.
Unfortunately, all MP1st managed to get their hands on was the reported title card for the game, not particularly notable for the art style or… font. What is compelling is the date of April 28, 2012 seeming to imply that the last Saturday of April is the day fans should mark on their calendars. Since the existence of the game surprises no one, it’s safe to assume that an announcement trailer will arrive at that time.
If more leaks don’t appear before then, that is:
Even though a sequel was a foregone conclusion when Black Ops become a runaway success, Activision has been silencing reports on Black Ops 2, even going so far as apparently blacklisting news outlets. Hopefully this logo leak won’t be excessively punished (seriously, they added a ‘2’) and before long Treyarch and Activision will be more forthcoming with information.
Don’t expect any excessive gameplay footage from a debut trailer, since the release is still a long way away. We’ll settle for an idea of the story, as curiosity still runs high on how committed the development team will be to their 1960s-era-brainwashing backdrop. The first trailer could also help clear up the debate over CoD‘s foray onto the PlayStation Vita, and whether or not Black Ops 2 will release on the handheld.
Is Black Ops 2 a game that you’re looking forward to this coming year? Or is the growing range of triple-A franchises releasing this holiday season already capturing more of your attention?
Black Ops 2 is expected to release in November 2012 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Apparently, more information will be arriving April 28, 2012. We’ll keep you updated.
