Fans have been waiting on the edge of their seat for a new season of Black Mirror since 2019 when season 5 premiered. Now, the new cast for season 6 of the hit science fiction series has been announced.

In the three years since Black Mirror season 5, the show’s creator Charlie Brooker and his creative partner Annabel Jones have branched off to form their own production company, Broke and Bones. A 6th season of the Black Mirror was announced last May, and with the recent cast reveal, things appear to be finally coming together.

According to Variety, the list of names joining the newest season of the Netflix dystopian series include Zazie Beetz, Paapa Essiedu, Josh Hartnett, Aaron Paul, Kate Mara, Danny Ramirez, Clara Rugaard, Auden Thornton, and Anjana Vasan. Beetz previously played Van in Atlanta and Arthur Fleck's neighbor Sophia in Joker. Essiedu is an award-winning Shakespearean actor also known for appearing in the TV series Gangs of London and the upcoming Lazarus Project. Hartnett is known for starring in many well-known films and series such as Black Hawk Down, the horror series Penny Dreadful, and Christopher Nolan's upcoming film Oppenheimer.

Paul is the star of Breaking Bad and more recently appeared in Westworld. Mara has appeared in major productions such as House of Cards and The Martian. Ramirez recently starred as the pilot “Fanboy” in Top Gun: Maverick. Rugaard appeared in the supernatural crime drama The Rising. Thornton stars as Lucy Damon in This Is Us. Finally, Vasan can be seen in the punk rock comedy We Are Lady Parts and also appeared in a previous episode of Black Mirror.

Although details on the new season of Black Mirror are scant, Variety reports that it will have more than three episodes, which will make it at least longer than season 5. Black Mirror is well known for critiquing aspects of modern society, so it will be interesting to see what stories the new season tells. Since the last season of the show aired in 2019, the world has gotten much darker. In the past three years audiences have faced a devastating global pandemic, an attack on the U.S. Congress, and a large-scale war in Europe, three things most people thought could never happen.

With the real world already feeling so much like a dystopia, it’s hard to imagine how the show could put a more dystopian spin on things. Fans will have to wait and see if Black Mirror season 6 attempts to tackle these topics or just avoids them altogether.

Black Mirror season 6 does not yet have a release date.
