Black Clover 331: How The Wizard King Twist Affects The Story Going Forward

Black Clover’s 331st chapter, titled “And The Time Starts To Move," shocked readers by pulling up an unexpected twist no saw coming, using the beloved Wizard King, Julius Novachrono or rather Lucius Zogratis. The chapter teased that the biggest villain of the series may have been in the dark all this time.

Chapter 331 concluded the thrilling Spade Kingdom Arc, starring the fights between the Clover Kingdom mages and the Devil hosts, Dante Zogratis, Vanica Zogratis, and Zenon Zogratis. However, before the arc's ending, Tabata Yuuki dropped a cliffhanger, leaving readers to make wild guesses about the possible occurrences in the next Black Clover Arc, which has been confirmed to be the final arc.

The End Of A High-Stakes Battle

Black Clover's 330th chapter opened with the defeat of Lucifer, the king of the Devils, by the Asta-Liebe duo, using their anti-magic ability. Surprisingly, it seemed that the whole situation was already predicted by Adrammelech, the highest-ranking Devil linked to the Qlipoth. After Lucifero's demise, Adrammelech commented, “Now, this is what I wanted," signaling that the wily Devil had already made future plans. After taking Lucifero's heart for unknown reasons, possibly a power boost, he exited the scene, which depicted Yami and the Vice-Captain of the Black Bulls Squad, Nacht, in a near-death situation. Then, suddenly, the Black Bulls Squad arrived at the scene, feeding all the wounded Magic Knights Charmy's restorative food to replenish their mana and heal their injuries.

As a result of this development, everyone bounced back to full health, and the long-drawn battle ended.The events in Chapter 330 only served as a prelude to the shocking Chapter 331. At the start of the chapter, Black Clover finally introduced fans to Yuno’s mother, Ciel Grinberyall, the Queen Consort of Spade Kingdom, warming the hearts of readers. However, despite the sensitive and tear-filled reunion and the Spade Kingdom citizens’ request to Yuno to stay and protect the Spade Kingdom, he blatantly refused, stating that he had already made a vow to the Clover Kingdom.

Yuno’s reply reflected his firm, unflinching resolve to be the Wizard King despite being the Prince of Spade Kingdom. In the next scene, Asta and Liebe are revealed to be having a discussion, and for the first time in Block Clover, Asta showed how he felt toward his mother. He thanked Liebe for allowing him to know that his mother loved him; however, Liebe countered his thanks by stating that Asta helped him by defeating Lucifero, his long-standing Archenemy. Liebe further stated that he would aid Asta in his ambition to become the Wizard King of Clover Kingdom – the highlight of the series.

A Mind-Blowing Twist

The next scene revealed the highlight of Chapter 331. Julius Novachrono, the Wizard King of Clover Kingdom, was shown to be in deep thoughts about the unsettling occurrences surrounding him. Ever since the start of Black Clover, the Wizard King has always been depicted as an honorable figure whose tremendous strength was Clover Kingdom's main lifeline. Also, the role he played in encouraging Yuno and Asta, who were discriminated against by the Magic Knight society since they were commoners, allowed them to further cultivate their desire to become the Wizard King. Julius was also depicted to be an impartial Magic King, appointing Yami as the Captain of Black Bulls – a position reserved for Nobles with abundant mana. All his actions and obsession with magic allowed him to be that character everybody loves

Unfortunately, Chapter 331 pulled the carpet off our feet, revealing an unforeseen twist. After his arrival at the Wizard King's office, Damnatio posed a theory regarding the existence of Devils. He mentioned that his research into the subject was spurred by Asta's trial, which happened earlier in the series. Damnatio continued, saying that he investigated the families of Devil Hosts, using documents holding information more than 20 years ago from Black Clover’s present timeline. He intended on revealing his newly found discovery to Julius either for confirmation or, most likely, disproval. Damnatio hammered on the fact that within the Qilpoth, there is no mention of the Supreme Devil, Megicula, unveiling a controversy. According to Damnatio's account, there are three rulers of the Underworld: Beelzebub of Spatial Magic, Lucifero of Gravity Magic, also referred to as "Satan," and Astaroth of Time Magic.

However, Astaroth disappeared from the Underworld for unknown reasons. So, Damnatio tried to track down his movements in the past decades, using Astaroth’s specialty, Time Magic. Then, Dmanatio discovered a shocking fact: Julius Novachrono was the only existing Time Magic user. Damnatio’s next words after telling Julius about his investigation, “Tell me you have nothing to do with it," came out as a plea rather than a suggestion. Suddenly, Julius morphed from his child-like form to his original look. In the next scene, Damnatio was revealed to be lying on the floor, possibly dead. Chapter 331 then concluded with the crafty Adrammelech showing up and calling Julius "Lucius Zogratis," shocking readers and, the chapter ended with Lucius Zogratis's bloodcurdling smile as he mouths, "Time's up."

How The Zogratis Reveal Will Impact the Story

The Zogratis family were the apex villains of the Spade Kingdom arc. Dante Zogratis was the Devil Host of Lucifero, Vanica was the Devil Host of Megicula, and Zenon Zogratis was the Devil Host of Beelzebub. However, the latest chapter revealed that they have an elder brother, Lucius Zogratis, camouflaged as Julius Novachrono. This may be one of the reasons for Julius' show of immense strength. Finally, apart from this fact, there is another frightening possibility that Lucius's power level is about to skyrocket.

During the final scene, Adrammelech had Lucifero’s heart in his hands, and he admitted to the whole situation playing out as Lucius planned. So definitely, a sinister plan with the Clover Kingdom at the center of it is about to hatch. Also, if news regarding the Wizard King's true identity spreads, Asta's path to becoming the Wizard King would become more treacherous since almost all the "Devil Hosts” in the series have been linked to less-than-ideal situations. Consequently, the people of Clover Kingdom may not be willing to appoint another Devil Host as the Wizard King. Among all the possible events that may happen in the Black Clover’s Final arc, one thing is sure: Clover Kingdom's Magic Knights are about to face their toughest opponent.
