Pierce Brosnan revealed that he is donning a motion-capture suit for his role as Doctor Fate/Kent Nelson in DCEU’s Black Adam. Production on the highly-anticipated film is slated to wrap up in the coming weeks in Atlanta, Georgia.

Starring Dwayne Johnson, Black Adam is being directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (OrphanThe Shallows) from a script written by Adam Sztykiel and Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani. Johnson was originally supposed to play the character in 2019’s Shazam! but DC films decided to give Black Adam his own franchise. The ensemble cast includes Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone.

In a recent interview with his son for People, Brosnan said his Doctor Fate role has its challenges. "I do have to put the motion-capture suit on, which is an acting challenge in itself,” said the former James Bond star, while adding, “But luckily, I was brought up in the theatre, so I know how to get into tights and act the goat." Due to the advancements in technology, the skin-tight mo-cap suits are now capable of recording the real-life movements of an actor. Earlier this year, the 68-year-old star stated on social media that he was looking forward to working with Johnson and playing the iconic superhero. Black Adam marks the first superhero-related project that Brosnan has been involved with.

Doctor Fate was created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Howard Sherman and first appeared in 1940’s More Fun Comics #55. Fate is regarded as one of the most powerful DC characters because he can heal, fly, teleport, and cast spells. Meanwhile, Black Adam received his powers from the Wizard Shazam and was one of the main archenemies of Captain Marvel and Billy Batson. The long-awaited film will be the cinematic debut for both Black Adam and Doctor Fate.

Several DECU films are scheduled to premiere over the next few years. The Flash is currently filming and Aquaman 2 will follow soon after, while James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will be available on HBO Max and in theatres this summer. The standalone sequel to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad centers on a group of convicts from Belle Reve Hospital who attempt to destroy a Nazi-era prison and laboratory. The ensemble cast includes Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker, and Sylvester Stallone as King Shark. Kinnaman made news after he stated that the film is on another level and is by far Gunn’s best film.

Meanwhile, David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! Fury of Gods reportedly started filming this May and is scheduled to be released in June 2023. While DC has not released details on Shazam 2's story, Sandberg posted a hilarious Reddit video that shows someone running into an office and reading the last page of the film’s script. Despite numerous online rumors, Henry Cavill’s Superman and Johnson’s Black Adam will not appear in the sequel.

Black Adam is scheduled to be released in theatres on July 29, 2022.
