Black Adam, that DC film most people know nothing about except that it stars Dwayne Johnson, has finally finished filming. So at the very least, it's definitely a real movie. But fans might find new reasons soon to get excited because Johnson himself seems particularly passionate about the project he and the rest of the folks behind it have pulled off. Not bad considering how recently production began on the film.

Taking to Twitter, Johnson celebrated the wrap of Black Adam in his own high-energy way. Or, at least, he did it with as much energy as one could possibly muster while typing words. Thanking all the actors, crew members, and others involved (totaling over 1,000 people), as well as director Jaume Collet-Serra, he demonstrated how his boundless enthusiasm can somehow translate into text. Those little lightning bolt emojis probably helped.

Johnson ended his tweet with a rather excited (or ominous, depending on one's perspective) declaration, saying, "The hierarchy of power in DC Universe is changing." Naturally, this seems to refer to the lore behind Black Adam, which reaches all the way back to 1945 in the real world (and many centuries further back than that within the DC Universe itself). But anyone without context might see it as a challenge to other DC movies. Maybe it would be like Final Fantasy vs. Dragon Quest. Same family, different fans.

The story of Black Adam actually ties into that of Shazam. Long before young Billy Batson had that chance encounter that turned him into Zachary Levi, the wizard known as Shazam chose another champion to wield his power. That champion turned out to be a man from ancient Egypt known as Teth-Adam, who took on the superhero name Mighty Adam. But unlike Billy, Adam became the corrupted and villainous Black Adam. The upcoming Black Adam film appears to be set in the modern-day, where the former hero is fighting to overcome his evil ways and clear his name.

Black Adam also seems to be an origin story for the Justice Society of America (JSA), featuring heroes like Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Dr. Fate (played by former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan). It will be interesting to see this new angle on the DC Universe after years of focusing on the more mainstream heroes (and also Shazam!), and that's definitely the good kind of interesting.

Here's hoping the film turns out to be another success for DC. The market may feel like it's saturated with superhero movies nowadays, but as long as they're really good, they might as well keep making them. Granted, it's not like they could be stopped either way.

Black Adam is set to release in theaters on July 29th, 2022.
