Black Adam, the feature film dedicated to Shazam's nemesis, is already filming and it seems that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is eager to get fans excited for the project. The Hollywood star and leading man of the film posted the first image from the set to social media, celebrating that the very first day of filming had begun, and everyone is determined to make the movie as great as it can be.

As for the film itself, Black Adam is one of several projects that Warner Bros. is hoping will kick off a new phase for the DC Extended Universe. Now that Zack Snyder's Justice League has officially come and gone, the 'Snyder Era' of the DC Film universe is officially concluded, leaving Warner Bros. with the challenging task of forging a new identity for their shared universe.

While the exact plot of the film isn't known yet, Black Adam is best known as a nemesis of Shazam, having basically the same power set but used for evil. In recent interpretations of the character, however, Black Adam is portrayed as less of a villain and more of an anti-hero, a superpowered protector of his people who prioritizes his kingdom above everything else. Considering that this film is set to be all about Black Adam, it seems likely they're going with the more sympathetic portrayal of the character.

That's likely part of why Dwayne Johnson was chosen for the part, being both an actor who is already in superhero shape and also quite charismatic, which gives him an edge when playing someone who audiences may not trust right off the bat. Lately, the Black Adam star has been posting images of himself working out, and most recently he's posted a photo from the set, showing off the clapper board for the film.

The image itself only shows off the board with the logo for Black Adam. Other than that, Johnson added some context in the caption, explaining that they had just started filming, and how excited he was to start working on the project. He also included some shout-outs to other participants like director Jaume Collet-Serra and referred to the whole day as "History in the making."

He ended the post by saying they hoped to make something very special and that it was "an honor" to work on Black Adam. Hopefully, the final product lives up to those ambitious goals, and the whole team ends up achieving everything they want to do with the film.

Black Adam is set to release on July 29, 2022.
