With the launch of Anthem forthcoming, the ongoing support of Star Wars: The Old Republic, and the premise of other IPs such as Dragon Age and Mass Effect, many BioWare fans may be questioning whether we will ever get Knights of the Old Republic 3. After all, the first Knights of the Old Republic and its sequel were well-received by fans, with the legacy of Revan being a constant point of discussion in the Star Wars fandom today.

Although it may be one of the most desired follow-ups in gaming history, fans shouldn't hold their breath. In a recent interview, BioWare general manager Casey Hudson was asked if the studio would ever continue its Star Wars series beyond The Old Republic, but he made it clear that other projects, such as Anthem, took priority.

Hudson stated that the majority of BioWare was making sure Anthem was ready for launch, stating it was "super important" the company got it right for its fans, but it did have smaller groups working on other projects. Namely, he had teams working on what the next Dragon Age will look like, and teams supporting The Old Republic. He further implied that doing another Star Wars game right would require the majority of the studio, even one as large as BioWare.

In the same interview, Hudson expressed interest in the next Dragon Age and Mass Effect, calling the latter franchise his "baby." While he stopped short of revealing what was next for BioWare, it won't likely be a Star Wars game with the number of projects the studio has going on. For those wanting to play more BioWare titles, it's worth mentioning the studio is interesting in developing smaller games, which may be another indicator that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3 isn't in the works.

While there will always be gamers clamoring for a follow-up to Revan's legacy, it seems Anthem is the focus for now, and another BioWare IP may follow suit. Considering that Anthem's end-game content is important to BioWare, it's likely to get a lot of post-launch support, meaning BioWare may not have the resources to devote to another Star Wars game any time soon.

Anthem releases February 22, 2019, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
